This Laphroaig 13yo from the Duncan Taylor Rare Auld series from 2011 comes uncoloured and unchillfiltered.
The colour is bright golden.
On the nose you immediately get the Islay-influence: peat, smoke and medicinical undertones which remind me of first aid tape. I also get sour, lemonlike and salty flavours.
The palate begins with a punch in the face of spicy (nutmeg, pepper), peaty and ashy tastes. There are also bitter earthy flavours which yields in walnut and other nuts. The body is medium and it is very quaffable even without the adding of water.
The finish is long, wonderfully warm and peaty. It is also dry/sourish.
In my opinion a classic Laphroaig with added layers of complexity and a great balance.
