The ‘Moment’ range by Mackmyra already has about 25 different releases. This Kôrsbär – which simply means ‘cherries’ and refers to the finish on cherry wine casks – is the most recent, added in the second half of 2017, 2400 bottles strong. The whisky has a dark pink sheen as if from a rosé wine.
This Mackmyra is true to its name on the nose, for cherries clearly dominate. I even get some Maraschino cherries. Then some Christmas cake with candied apples, pineapple and almonds. The whole is sprinkled with some lovely dark sherry. Some late vanilla and chocolate arrive.
The body is somewhat light, but nicely spicy. Black pepper and mint precede the sweet fruit. Again cherries, but also strawberries and apples, some dark chocolate and woodsmoke. The vanilla turns into toffee, while the chocolate becomes dark. A slight bitterness towards the end.
That bitterness continues in the – albeit quite long – finish and is, in my opinion, the only downside to this malt, which all in all is a very nice Mackmyra.
Lovely sweet Mackmyra that will go down well with dessert on Christmas Eve. It has a price tag of around 120 EUR.
