I also have an anCnoc on this list - however it's the 12 yr expression...
Another is the Old Pulteney 12 yr.

Great discussion but how hard is it to find ogd 114. I can't seem to find it in Louisiana

@Nolinske, as I live in Vienna, Austria I can easily find it here. When I visit family in the states I found it in California at K&L Wines and Binny's - have you tried online? OGD 114 is really cheap but this big boy delivers...

@maltster I just checked binnys and they have it so I think I'm going to put together an order and ship a few bottles to help mitigate the shipping costs As for an underrated whiskey I really enjoy wild turkey 101 and the original glenmorangie

For me Old Pulteney 12 year old, Buffalo Trace, Caol Ila 12 year old, Blantons Bourbon, Hogs 3 bourbon, South Island Single Malt 21 Year Old, Hakushu 12 year old is awesome, but Yamazaki seems to get all the play and I almost never hear anyone talk about it, but Tobermory 15 year old is phenomenal.

@SquidgyAsh I didn't realize blantons was underrated but if that is the case I need to give the under appreciators a stern talking to!

@Nolinske Hahaha I was more thinking about whiskies that I never hear anyone talking about. When I hear people talking about bourbon it's always Buffalo Trace, Makers Mark, Four Roses, etc I figured I should show Blantons some love ;) But yeah I'm not sure how would you would define underrated here, whether it would be whiskies that people always pass up for something else, or whether it would be whiskies that people kind of belittle. Either way Blantons is yummy and if you need to give anyone a stern talking to let me know so I can help!

Rittenhouse Rye, Old Pulteney 12, Glenfarclas 10, The MacTarnahan (Glenfarclas 9.5), Ardmore Traditional Cask, Scapa 16, Longmorn 16, Cragganmore 12

@rigmorole Love Glenfarclas 10, I should probably throw Aberlour 10 yr old in that list as well!

@rigmorole I hear ya on the Scapa 16 yr, Longmorn 16 yr, and Cragganmore 12 yr...
Another one that's under the radar is the Deanston 12 yr...Not overly complex, but a nice every day dram.

I would have to say that like so many others AnCnoc 12yr, Bunnahabhain 12yr, Deanston 12yr, Old Pulteney 12yr, Dalwhinne 15yr, Cardhu 12yr, Edradour 10yr, are often underrated / overlooked. :)

Benromach 10 year old.
Ellenstown 10 year old (a bastard malt, well known to be a cask strength bottling of Ardbeg 10)!
Glen Grant 10 year old.
McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt.

I agree with @maltster regarding Te Bheag, as well as with @rigmorole's nomination of Scapa 16, and @SquidgyAsh's nod to Aberlour 10. I'm also going to add the Amrut Single Malt - not the cask strength or the peated variants, but the plain old basic Amrut expression that seems to get lost amongst all the other fabulous stuff that Amrut has been producing.

Anything from Kilchoman, Bowmore Laimrig, Ardmor TC, Port Askaig CS, Glengoyne 17 Year Old

Benriach 12 Year Sherry Wood. One of my favorite whiskies that seems largely overlooked. Awesome sherry bomb.

In my opinion - Ardmore Traditional Cask: A gently peated Whisky, 46% abv. non-chill filtered, finished in Quarter Casks, affordable and quite delicious!

@A'bunadhman, @MacBaker, I agree with you: the Ardmore TC and the Benromach 10 are excellent bang for the buck and fly under the radar of many connoisseurs...worth trying. @SqidgyAsh, the Hakushu 12 is a very fine dram but more common in Europe because until recently it wasn't available in the US (and Australia ?) , if you like the Hakushu 12 you should also try Yoichi 12 which I rate even higher than the Hakushu. Another cracker is Dimple Gold Crest - a really great Blend.

@maltster I'll have to keep an eye out for that Yoichi 12 year old then! Love the Hakushu 12 year old, really don't care for the 18 year old sadly.

@MacBaker62 Awesome list that McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt haunts my wish list and next to Octomore is bloody well hard to find. :)

@PMessinger Haven't tasted this year's McCarthy's. Last year's was nothing to write home about (on on this discussion about). 2008 is still the best year. If you have one, it's a keeper! As for 2012, it's not a winner but it's not a looser aside from the price for it. Too expensive for what you get. And if you want a curiosity, then it's a winner, I suppose. Being from Portland, I'm pulling for McCarthy's, but I expect something worth plunking down my hard earned dough. This said, McCarthy's is not underrated. If anything, it's a tad overrated for what it is.

@Mammon Ditto on the Kilchoman, young distillery / young whisky but excellent non the less. :)

Forgot to add this one...Singleton of Glendullan 12 yr...Odd shaped green bottle; can be found for roughly $35...1st tried it a few years ago; nothing special, but a really easy drinking single malt that many newcomers might enjoy.

@FMichael Yeah I forgot that one too. Odd shape is right that bottle fits funny in my cabinet, what does one call that shape kidney??. :)

@Hunggar I agree, Benriach 12 Sherry Matured is an exceptional whiskey. I wrote up a review, let me know what you think. Here in Quebec there are 3 BenRiachs that are standouts in my opinion, but the prices at the Society Alcohol Quebec (SAQ) don't really demonstrate that about them. I'm not complaining! BenRiach Curiositas, BenRiach Aromaticus Fumosus and the Sherry matured as you already mentioned. They can all be purchased under $74 which is a good price in Canada. I often find bottles at half the price in the US, but I don't mind paying our local prices for good whiskey,

I'll repeat a vote for several already mentioned...Old Grand Dad 114, McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt, and Te Bheag. I would also add Evan Williams Single Barrel as for me it is a high quality bottle that nicely shows the basic flavour profile of a rye-based bourbon mashbill for a reasonable $30 price point (in the US).
Port Charlotte's 'An Turas Mor' flies nicely under the radar in relation to its 'numbered' siblings, at about 1/2 the price (at least). Alas, this one is on its way out, being replaced by the Peat Project.

Highland Park 12 is one of the best single malts I've tried, much better than older or more expensive bottles.

Aberfeldy 12, Clynlish 14. Although folks know about the Clynelish. The Aberfeldy 21 is astounding but the 12 is often overlooked. I sometimes feel my purchases of the 12 keep Aberfeldy afloat, but I know better...

There are many great whiskies - some of them are in fashion, some of them aren't. What are the most underrated whiskies for you? I would start with still available bottles and name •Bunnahabhain 12 •AnCnoc 16 •Dailuaine 16 •Buchannan 18 •Te Bheag •old Grand Dad 114 Proof
