This 10 Year Old Fettercairn was bottled at cask strength. It is an older bottling with an Italian tax stamp. Nice color.
The nose is stinky winky, oh boy! Underneath some grass and something that reminds me of figs and gooseberries, but the whole is totally overpowered by the scent of burnt car tyres and burnt tomato soup. This really ruins the nose completely. I will put it aside for fifteen minutes to give it some time to breath. This is not helping a lot. Fried parsley, Maggi spice mix, broth of vegetables. The skin of a chicken gives me unpleasant goosebumps. Yikes!
What the hell? On the palate, none of this returns. This is suddenly Fanta with some whipped cream. Burnt caramel. Clear hints of sherry. Orange liqueur. Nutmeg and vanilla. Oak. This makes up for a lot. Good drinking strength.
Mildly drying, medium long finish on oranges and oak.
Rather simple on palate and in the finish, but what a horrible nose! Thanks for the sample, Foamy!
