Talisker 10 Year Old

I agree with you, you love it or you hate it. But I think you can learn to love it. This is really not a whisky to initiate someone to whisky tasting, but once you learned to love whisky, this is one of the best, especially for the price.

Perfect dram for a cold evening while watching a hockey game.

I've run across several people who hate it, but after 6 months of slowly weaning them from gentle speysides, to more robust speysides, to lowland and then through gentle highlanders, they almost invariably end up liking the Talisker.

It does take time, and isn't one for the beginner slopes, but it is one of the best drams out there.

I'm still deciding how much I like Tal 10 (25ppm); it certaintly is not as smokey or sooty as Laga 16. I wonder if there is anyone who dislikes Tal 10, but who likes one or more of the Islays? Or is it really just the peat/smoke that draws the line?

@jdcook, can I ask what you consider to be a more robust speyside (other than probably Ardmore(15ppm)?

I also have a slight problem with the Talisker 10, although I love all Lagavulins, and most other Islays. I think what bothers me with the Talisker 10 is the pepper bite, not the smoke/peat.

Either love it or hate it? Not my first dram of Talisker 10. I thought that it was ok, pretty good, but it didn't draw me. I don't have a bottle of this in my Cabinet yet, but expect to get one before too long. Peppery? Great!!
