Complex & Brutal

Early December I poured this Talisker 25 Year Old (the 2014 release) at a tasting. It was one of the highlights of the evening. Read on and I’m sure you’ll understand why.
Surprisingly soft nose (for a Talisker!) on wet wood, nuts, sea salt, iodine and oranges, with a touch of smoke and a hint of pepper. Elegant. Round. Mature.
The body is a tad light. Lots of pepper that makes for a serious bit, but not like the 10 (where it is veritable chili), joined by toffee and a nutty sweetness. Hint of rancio, ship’s rope, charcoal, liquorice and smoked salmon. Complex and brutal.
Somewhat drying, black tea with a salty note in the just shy of being long finish.
It is every bit as complex as the 18 Year Old – which I find sexy and feminine – but with a pair of cajones (despite the slightly lighter body). Fantastic Talisker that merits its price tag of 250 EUR.
