When you are paying nearly 500 Quid for a bottle of whisky you are definitely hoping for something really good to come out of it. The same held true for this Talisker as well. 27 Years of Maturation on Refill American Oak Casks.. bottled at Cask strength.. it had all the makings to be a cracker.. well almost!!

Nose: Begins with some nice sweet refreshing spices .. possibly cloves. Then comes the peat and iodine not overly powerful.. but still enough to make that lasting impression. More sweetness from dark raisins. Then there's freshly cut grass, wet card board, dark berries and chocolate.. overall this is really nice

Palate: Fairly good dose of peppery spice here.. which notes of peat and tropical fruits hard to single out a few though with some apples as well

Finish: The finish has notes of the wood from those casks in which the spirit lay.. some under ripe green apples and some citrus orange peel notes too.

Now this is definitely some good whisky but very characteristic of most other Talisker expressions which by the way are a lot cheaper too. This is where I felt this particular expression felt short. For the price tag that this one carries, would I be wrong to expect something a bit more 'special'?

I've heard the same complaint about other well-aged Taliskers. I've only had the 10 and the DE, but part of what I'd look for in any Talisker is the punch. If it's mellowed out by all those years in wood, then what do you get instead? (rhetorical question)

@OlJas to be honest.. I don't think its mellowed down per se.. the only problem if could call it one with this expression was that it had nothing special to offer.. it was good and yet 'way overpriced' expression..
