This bottling by Malts of Scotland fits in the so-called ‘46’-range, in which MoS deviates from the principle of bottling at cask strength, but rather cuts the whisky to the drinking strength of 46%. I previously tried a nice Bowmore in this range, and a Glengoyne is still sitting in my sample cabinet. But first this Tamdhu, which is 11 years old as it was distilled in 2002. It matured on a bourbon hogshead and is quite pale.
The nose is rather light on baked pears, caramel, vanilla and a drop of coconut milk. Some gooseberries, but way in the back. Something that reminds me of freshly baked bread. A floral touch too.
The arrival is soft, but mildly spicy. Some pepper and coriander. Then the pears kick in, as does the coconut milk. Perfect continuation of the nose, but in all honesty it does not have much going on.
The finish is surprisingly long and remains quite spicy.
Not a bad Tamdhu, surely, but too regular to jump out at you. Around 50 EUR.
