Dun Bheagan is a series of malts marketed by Ian MacLeod. Today I will try a Tamdhu, incidentally a distillery currently owned by this bottler. This 13 Year Old got a finish on sherry casks, was distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2003. I am putting it head to head with a 15 Year Old, also from 1990, but finished on port casks.
The nose is sweet on all kinds of sherry notes going from raisins to whipped cream to saddle bags. Nuts, roasted and sugared. But also not-so-nice touch of rubber. It also has a green side (parsley?) and something that reminds me of goat cheese. Hmm. I am not yet decided, but I cannot call this good.
It is fairly sweet on the palate, but also quite bitter. Too bitter to be good. There is hardly and fruit left, bar some pink grapefruit. On the palate, the rubber returns. Spice-wise, this is ginger and cinnamon with a hint of cloves.
The finish is somewhat long (which is not an advantage here) and mildly spicy.
This release was not to my liking, to be honest.
