My buddy Manny was able to get his hands on an old dumpy bottle from the 80s of the last century. A Tamdhu that matured for 15 years.
I've only just poured it and the space is already filling up with dark sweet, fruity notes of overripe banana, blueberries and chewing tobacco. It then gently evolves into bright fruits such as apricot and peach. Clean, fruity and not the slightest hint of fatigue, let alone OBE. Delicious!
It is deliciously oily, immediately very sweet on apricots, peach, pineapple and notes of sherry. Orange comes on strong. A leaf of mint provides a fresh lift. Very gently seasoned. Think some nutmeg and saffron. I rub my hands contentedly, because this has been in the bottle for 40 years and is still as fresh as if it was bottled yesterday.
The finish is relatively short, but sweet. Again quite a few sherry notes and a soft drying touch of leather on the deathbed.
A stunner of a classic. Thx, Manny!
