Ardbeg Uigeadail and Corryvreckan, Macallan 18 year old Sherry Oak, Highland Park 18 Year old among malts and 54 additional bottles not yet open. I'm limiting the number of open bottles in my cabinet to twenty...eight more to deplete. When I hit par it will become a straight one-for-one.

I'll tell you what tests my will power. It not the malts I have. Its walking into the LCBO and looking at the malts I don't have. The willpower comes from walking bravely away from the locked cabinet at the LCBO.

@paddockjudge...wait till you try the HP 18...Your willpower will be limiting yourself to just one dram

@PeterG7 Great point sometimes the will power needed to not purchase can be just as powerful as the will power to not open everything. :)

Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist. Most of the time I am fine… but on a rare occasion I just want to rip that bottle open and drink it all!

I'm weak...I gotta try it the minute I get home...To me - whisky's meant to be enjoyed, and not collecting dust on my shelf.

Bruichladdich Multi-Vintage Organic, Signatory Caol Ila 1999/2011, Compass Box Peat Monster and Spice Tree. I have an inventory plan (which bottle will replace which bottle), and some of my bottles have been earmarked for future tasting evenings, so I can't just open them.

I also agree with @valuewhisky and several others - sometimes the test of will power is to NOT buy more bottles!

What test my will power is any decently priced whisky, or any decent whisky on sale, at the LCBO. This is so because (1) it's rare to find a decent discounted bottle at the LCBO, and (2) because if you plan to purchase a bottle, but don't purchase it now, you can be assured that you will pay more for it later because the LCBO is guaranteed to (arbitrarily) increase the price. I have only been drinking whisky for 3 years, and have seen seemingly random price increases of up to $20 (but usually $5-10) on innumerable whiskies. For example, one day JW Gold is $100, and the next it's $110. Or the random bump of Laddie 10 from the mid 50's to $64.

It takes great willpower and restraint not to buy in now knowing that I am guaranteed to be even more severely gouged in the future. Sigh...

@TheConscience - I hear you...that is usually how I determine what I plan to buy, between the clearance sales (where I picked up the Bruichladdich Organic and the Belgian Owl), and the AirMiles Bonus offerings, you have to exercise restraint as the prices at the LCBO can be very prohibitive (I've had to place a three to four month moratorium on purchases as my stock is getting a bit out of hand, but I can't help but wonder what I might miss as a result...)

The Pappy Van Winkles, the Girvan, the Port Charlotte 7 & 8, the Snow Phoenix,... basically all my less common and not easily available whiskies test me. Every time I see them standing there they seem to shout out DRINK ME! THAT GLENMORANGIE LASANTA SUCKS COMPARED TO ME! Thank god I keep them locked in my basement and I'm too lazy to go down there often.

@Fons Hey you are super-whisky-man, just tell the bottles to shut up. Should be no problem unless they contain kryptonite...oh wait, seems like those bottles are your kryptonite :D

SMWS bottlings are very tough to open knowing that unless I can somehow jag a second bottle of the same cask, what I am tasting will not be repeated, and oxidation will make savouring the unique taste a race against time.

I have a monthly whisky budget. But a bottle does not get subtracted from the total until I actually open the bottle. That way I can grab that bottle I find at a bargain even if it exceeds my budget at time. I just have to wait to open it.
