@Victor That's an incredibly accurate description of the experience I have had with this Lag16 bottle I recently bought/mentioned. I really couldn't have summed it up better than that.

@BlueNote No worries. I have a bit of a masochistic streak.

@OdysseusUnbound well then, the solution is given - take the bottle of writer's tears off @RianC and the problem is solved!

I'd just use the disappointing malt to beef up some low shelf blend.

Use it to cook with. I’ve had some whiskies I just don’t like (Early Times, R&R Canadian) that I’ve used as a marinade for ribs, pork loin or chicken. You can also put it into mustard or BBQ sauce, and I’ve also combined it with beef stock/gravy, simmered and reduced it and had it as a sauce.

@mhock66 - I do sometimes cook with whiksy. I've found that my Jura Superstition has become flat and not that great so have used that in whisky type sauces. Works well actually. I'd imagine WT's would work in an Irish coffee, which I'm not a fan of but know someone who is . . .

Do not BBQ with cask strength whisky. I was marinading ribs with 35cl of A'bunadh batch 45 on Saturday and it blew up my Weber, left 5m radius of scorched grass in the garden and provoked flames reaching 8m into the air.

@RikS ... lid was closed, huh?

Mrs Booker Noe calls Cask Strength whisky "oven buster".

Thanks for the safety share.

@Riks dang, you shouldn't consume 40cl of A'bunadh before BBQing! laughing
Sorry couldn't resist I am glad no one got hurt and thanks for the heads up.

Redbreast 21 YO, I was recently gifted a bottle of this highly acclaimed Irish Pot Still Whiskey. The 12 YO and 12 YO CS are very much to my liking, but this one just doesn't turn my crank. A bottle full of wet paper bag and ripe apricots...perhaps I've been Corked!
