@Martberg Never had ANY of the expressions listed, but here's what a wee bit of research turned up!
Jim Murray 2012 preferred Laphroaig 18 over the Port Charlotte PC8, by a few points.
Malt Maniacs enjoyed both Laphroaig 18 and Port Charlotte PC8 equally, giving them equivalent scores.
We need to know which Douglas Laign Laphroaig 15 yr old cask/batch to be able to find anything out about it.
Personally I'd go with either the Port Charlotte PC8 (as I've never tried anything from the distillery) or more likely the Douglas Laign, especially if the Douglas Laign is cask strength! I've got a few bottles of some of the Douglas Laign different bottlings sitting around and or that I've tried and I've got to be honest I've loved them all and I love to support the independent bottlers, they do some pretty cool things!
Good luck with your choice and let us know what you picked and what you thought of it!!

Laphroaig 18 is good but that seems way overpriced to me. Granted the US dollar is a bit different, but it's priced $70 around here and I don't feel like that's the bargain of the century. I'd go PC8 if I were spending that amount.

@valuewhisky I know it's overpriced but it's because I'm from Montreal QC. You can buy from SAQ only... :( I have unfortunately jave to deal with it !

@Martberg, if I were you, or any other resident of PQ, Ontario, British Columbia, or Manitoba (and a few other provinces) I would be talking 4 or 5 of my non-drinking friends into driving down for a long weekend in New York City, then bringing back 5 x 1.14 Litres of New York City booze with me. It would pay for your trip.

...yes, that would be Seattle for you BC natives...and North Dakota for you @Lars!

@Victor ILMAO, unfortunately I don't have any non drinking Friends. :( I do like your whisky prices however LOL. @Martberg I would grab the Port Charlotte PC8.

I have no experience with Douglas Laign, but other two are on top of my list, so it's really a tough call. Laphroaig 18 is so rich and complex. And PC8 is so intense and explosive) I'd say have them both) Or any of them now and other later. You can't fault here.

If you like it big and intense (as I do) then I would pick the PC8 without question.
Douglas Laing has nice stuff and $152 sounds reasonable for that bottle. It is most likely 50% abv. I would pick that over the Laphroaig 18yo because it will be a single cask and unique. The Laphroaig 18yo is by far the most over priced bottle on your list. For my money I would rather buy something unique. The Douglas Laing is probably one of 600 bottles (or something like that). The PC8 is one of 30,000 bottles (keep in mind 50,000 bottles of Ardbeg Galileo are out there). The Laphroaig 18yo is on going . . . .
I would still do the PC8 but I am talking myself into the Douglas Laing . . .

Judging by your cabinet, I would get the Laphroaig 18 year old, eventhough I don't know if it is overpriced for your region. Anyway it is a very good whisky. @Nock: There are "only" 15000 bottles of Galileo...

@Martberg have you made a decision and picked up a bottle yet? Curious to hear what you decided on and how it tastes.

@Mammon where did you get the Ardbeg Galileo 15000 bottle number from? I am just curious. I simply copied my number from whiskyfun so I am not claiming definitive insider knowledge. (however Serge can be a valuable resource ;)

My 2 cents: Buy the PC8. It's awesome.
IMO Laphroaig Quarter Cask is better than Laphroaig 18. The 18 is too refined, too sophsticated for what I enjoy in the rough and ready QC.

I got it from a LVMH (Ardbeg) representative on the latest Whisky degustation in Zürich. Besides I ve just seen that whiskybase.com names the same number.

@Wodha, I rarely see whisky things much differently from you, but I do find Laphroaig 18 more robust than Quarter Cask,... but only after the 18 has had 2-3 months to breathe.

@Victor I do not possess your self-control. I do plan on someday amassing my own collection of 150 open bottles. Then a Laphroaig 18 might survive more then a couple of weeks on my shelf.

Hi everyone, thank you for all your comments. I'm dropping the Laphroaig 18 because it is widely available. I'm replacing it with a Douglas Laign Caol Ila 16 for 150 $
I'm really tempted to spend my money the Caol Ila 16 especially because only the distiller's edition is available here and it's not very good apparently ...

@Martberg You've changed the questionh. I'd choose the Caol Ila 16 over the PC8 sinply because I haven't had it. I've yet to have a Caol Ila I didn't like.

@Martberg Hahaha that's a very hard line up for me to choose between.....Honestly at that point and price wise it just might be a wee bit easier to toss a coin and enjoy!

Allright everyone I finally made my decision and bought the Caol Ila 16 Douglas Laing, tasting notes to follow ! :)
