After the recently tasted Kylver 9 'Hagalaz' here is already number ten, which listens to the name 'Nauthiz', a vatting of oloroso and first fill bourbon barrels. The rune Nauthiz means as much as 'need-fire', which refers to necessity and the inevitability of human suffering. As harsh as this may sound, the rune also means as much as man's power to turn his suffering into greatness and success. So much for the rune lesson. Let's quickly find out whether this malt is also great and successful.
Wow! This nose is very attractive. A rich, aromatic scent of hazelnuts and a cartload of toffee meets my nostrils, embellished with caramel and origin chocolate. But what stands out head and shoulders above this is a delicious wave of demerara sugar that reminds me for a moment of a rum from the top shelf. Delicious!
It's nice and oily. No, just make it creamy! Feels luxurious in the mouth. In addition to the hazelnuts, I now also get beautiful notes of marzipan and dark chocolate with a good dose of cinnamon and something of butterscotch. Dark sweet and sensual. This is truly delicious, believe me.
The finish is long, softly spicy and sweet on caramel.
Without a doubt the best malt I have already tasted from Thurso. Kudos! Thanks for the sample, Glenn!
