Millstone 5 yrs Black Label is a lightly peated whisky by Zuidam Distillers from the Netherlands. Matured in Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks.
Started out fairly enough because the young age doesn't take over the nose as much as it dominates the other parts in a bad way.
Fruitiness backfires a bit with this young tasting dram. It gets too stingy.
Interesting start with an collapsing continuation makes this like the Interview. Movie by another artisan from Holland: Theo van Gogh.
Nose: Very wee smoke fades away immediately. Over riped apples with medicinal peat gives you an interesting mix.
Taste: Riped apples turn into very raw apples. Stingy and fruity with peat trying to dominate at the back. Hints of vanilla?
Finish: Citrus and peat feel pointy at the back of your throat. Some dry oak as well. Added water makes the dryness go away a bit.
Balance: Starts out decently with an interesting mix of aromas but sadly, shows it's young age in a way too sharp way.

If you get the chance, try the 12y Sherry. I'm sure you would score that one much higher.
