We see a lot of good prices in Montgomery County, Maryland, such as Johnnie Walker Green Label for $ 42 and Gold Label for $ 56. My recent favourites may have been in Baltimore, though, where I picked up a bottle of Compass Box Asyla for $ 22 and one of Oak Cross for $ 28.

I picked up a bottle of Glenmorangie Finealta @ Schiphol Airport for € 43. I don't know if it's a steal, but it does look like a deal to me.

@Victor, Here in L.A., we've got the same prices for the JW Green and Gold. But, in-store only at Mission Liquors they got the JW Blue for $119.00usd. Also, those Compass Box prices you've got in Maryland is a true "steal."

On an side note... My guy at my liquor shop told me that Diageo will have different pricing for independent liquor stores compared to the "big-box" conglomerates like Bevmo or Total Wines. And Pernod Ricard, LVMH, RI will follow suit. Get ready World for higher pricing!

@whiskyshiba , Saw JW Blue Label @ Costco in the San Francisco Bay Area for $119, Chivas Regal 18 for $43.

@DevD, Nice! The power of Diageo and its price controls. Is it the same Costco on 10th that's always getting robbed? My boy went to UC Berkeley so I visited quite often and that Costco was always on the news because of robberies

@whiskyshiba, This is available in all the Costco's in the SF Bay Area.

Ardbeg Alligator $50, grabbed a few! and a Bowmore Darkest for $32. Bowmore was a sticker error I noticed and kept quiet about and the Alligator was a close out. Some of your guys' deals are INSANE! Hope I get so lucky!

@Zanaspus the local stores got a shipment in a couple of weeks ago, but looks like all the Talisker 18 is sold out. And after a year, they still had it at the wrong price ... glad I stocked up again ...

A friend of mine helped me get a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail from San Fran for $59. In Canada, it's twice that much.

I just got a bottle of Aberlour 10 year old for about $21 US at the duty free in Barbados. I feel like it was a killer deal and it was a 1000mL bottle at that! I've never even seen in here in North Carolina so I'm particularly happy.

For me deals are relative to the gouging I get charged by my Ontario liquor stores. To date, my best deals are also my most recent. A bottle of laphroaig 18 for $85 (retails for 179 in ontario) and a bottle of Ardbeg alligator for $49. Both from a mission I sent my dad on in Washington state, lucky for me he's retired. Now if only I could convince him to drive for another hour or two and I could buy a case of the alligator and 18...

@cpstecroix , Scored a macallan 18 for $62 out of the door, found it in a mom/pop liquor store, thinking of picpicking up their remaining bottles

@DevD...what the...?!?! You could buy FOUR bottles of Mac 18 at that price, for what you would pay for ONE bottle in Ontario!!!! (Macallan is the Sony or Honda of the whisky world...you pay extra for the quality that the name brand implies).

@DevD, grab those babies while you can. They are $250 up here in Vancouver. I bought a bottle at the distillery in Scotland last year and it was about $110 even there.

@DevD buy them! Even if you don't plan on drinking them all, you can trade a bottle for something else with another whisky fan.

@DevD, yes, as @cpstecroix correctly notes, barter bottles can be a huge step in furthering your cabinet, especially for picking up limited release or rare bottles. You have to have quality to offer in trade to expect to pick up quality. Macallan 18 has lust-ability for sure.

@Victor , I am also getting a Glenfiddich 21 Caribbean Cask for $90, thinking whether I should buy this?

12 years ago 0

@Victor
Victor replied

@DevD, I haven't sampled the Glenfiddich 21 yo Caribbean Cask, but a $ 90 price looks to be about $ 40 below the US average. Certainly this is a whisky of barterable quality. I would expect its appeal to be a little less broad, though, than that of the very standard and well-known Macallan 18. I think that if I were making the decision it would be somewhat dependent upon my appraisal of my current network of contacts, and the likelihood of my being able to work out a deal within a reasonable period of time.

@two_bitcowboy

@DevD Glenfiddich prices went up this month. That 21 is about $170 around here now. For my taste it far surpasses the Mac 18.

What's the vintage date on that Mac 18?

Last week I found Redbreast 12 at the Argonaut in Denver with the outrageous tag of $26.99 on it. I grabbed two of them, and headed to the counter. The computer did not ring them up correctly, and I pointed it out. The clerk looked up--she could see the orange tag from the register--and frowned. She called over a manager, who stated that the orange tag was a mistake, but ordered the clerk to give them to me at the advertised price (Yippee!)

When she tried to honor the price, the computer refused: I could see the message on the clerk's screen: "You cannot sell this product for less than we paid for it." The manager sighed and stepped in to do a formal over-ride.

That was a deal--wish I'd grabbed four of 'em.

@Charlie-Davis , Just found out that the Costco in Southern California is selling a Dewars Tri pack(Dewars 12, Dewars 18 and Aberfeldy 12 750 ml bottles) for $50, original price was $100. Any Connosr member living in So Cal and planning to visit San Francisco sometime soon willing to pick 1 set for me I will highly appreciate it. I had bought this few weeks back when I was visiting So Cal for $70 from Costco, looks like they are clearing this out.
