@Nozinan Sometimes we have tough choices to make, like whether or not to purchase an $800 bottle, I'm glad not be the only one with tough decisions like this. I also have Batch 45,46, and enjoyed them a lot. I will pick Batch 47 when it comes my way. I am 46 now and bought two of Batch 45,46 for my birth year. Hope this was helpful. :)

A store that I visited yesterday had 3 batch 47 on the shelf for $60 each.
I didn't recall reading any reviews on this one, but do remember Ralfy's latest review wasn't too impressed with the latest A'bunadh.
The 12 yr Non-Chill filter was right next to the A'bunadh, and costing $10 less - I went with what I knew, and picked up a few of those instead.

Interesting you've kicked this one up again! As seen here...: connosr.com/wall/discussion/…
...I ended up going ahead with the purchase. And your point about Ralfy is just like rigmorole's; but I would still say that there is a known and large quality difference between batches 45 and 46-- and likely between 47 and 48 too. I have been very happy with the #47 so far, but then I've only started assessing it.

@FMichael
$60 for an A'Bunadh? I would have bought all three! Especially as batch 47 has had some positive reviews!

@Nozinan Finally picked Aberlour A'Bunadh today for $67, not a bad price. Got batch 47, there was only two left. Haven't cracked it open yet. Did you try batch 47 yet?

@Malt-Nuisance
I won't be trying batch 47 until I turn 47. I still have about a half of my batch 45 and a little of my batch 36 for the rest of this year, and a 46 for next year. And if I run low, I have about 10 other earlier batches to keep me going...
Though as I've expanded my range of spirits to bourbon and Forty Creek, I drink less of any one expression.

I just paid $59 in Massachusetts and was 25% off from $79. It was a batch 46. Which are the known large quality differences between the last batches?

@goldfilm, about batch # 46, I haven't tried it myself and hence do not have an opinion about it, but I can tell you that opinion is very polarised about that batch. Lots of people who otherwise love A'bunadh hate batch # 46. Others like it. What YOU think is all that matters. (by contrast Batch # 45 seems to get only positive comments)

@Victor well, I'll have to give my verdict in a couple of weeks after it settles in my palate and soul. I also want to play a little with drops of water because of it strength. It would be nice to meet in some kind of Batch Club and compare and enjoy...

@goldfilm
I decant 120 cc of each batch into a glass bottle filled to the top. I have about 5 or 6 of these (32,34,36,38,44 and 45 come to mind).
One day I hope to have (to paraphrase a deceased despot) the mother of all A'Bunadh tastings with a half dozen participants...

@Nozinan. I just compare my batch 34 to my batch 47.
Batch 34 is 1/3 full and 59.5%ABV open for 2 years.
Batch 47 is 1/2 full and 60.7%ABV open for a month.
Batch 34 has more of an alcohol smell to the nose, 47 has a darker fruit nose. The pallet is the same, 34 is a cherry bomb with a spicy burn.
47 has a darker fruit flavor with less of a burn.
I have had several other batches but they have all been finished. I always thought batch 34 was the best I've ever had. I wanted batch 34 to be better, I don't think it is.
My batch 47 is a very good A'Bunadh.

@Nozinan ... and I hope the day you offer the mother of all A'Bunadh I can hear the horns calling...

I thought 47 was pretty solid, myself. It's hardly a bank-buster of a dram, so I say go for it.

I just opened my a'bunadh, batch 47. I want to give it a few goes before writing a review but it's looking quite promising so far. It's my first encounter with the a'bunadh so I can't speak to the difference in regards to earlier batches.

@Nozinan i also decant 4oz from most my bottles (definitely the interesting ones) to save for my future self and friends. i have 4oz of a'bunadh batch 10 that i'd love to give you the next time we cross paths (i'm happy to meet up if you don't want to wait); you can add it to your vertical tasting. i think you'll enjoy it more than i will....

I rate #47 the lowest among the six batches I own (32, 34, 40, 45, 46, 47), but I'd give it a respectable 88. For the price, I'm not disappointed, but it seems young and leans a little too heavily towards the fruits and away from the rich sherry I've come to expect. (It's still very much a sherry bomb nonetheless.) Good stuff despite my nit-picks.

@WhiskyBee
I really look forward to trying this for myself. If it's ok, then I have a bottle to drink and enjoy, and I can decide whether to return my extra bottle (if they are still selling batches in canisters when I'm 47...)

@Malt-Nuisance
This is encouraging! Reinforces my decision to grab a couple while they were still available. A few left but the 49 is now predominating at the LCBO.
Anyone heard about the 50? I think it will be necessary to have one of those for my birthday (yikes...less than) 5 years rom now ...

This one is now available in Ontario. Does anyone have experience with this batch? I have batches 45 and 46 for my upcoming birthdays, but I need to decide if I want to stock up for birthday number 47. Although my will power not to buy every batch has been tested, I really only want to buy ahead only if it's a good batch.
Any advice would be appreciated.
