I was surprised to find a peated Bunna this old. I'd always thought that they'd only tried peating their whisky relatively recently.
This bottle has been open for about 5 months and I've added a small drop of water.
Nose is quite sharp - lemony and citrussy. Then the peatiness kicks in but it still remains quite light - grassy almost. Hints of orange battle with the peatiness for supremacy. Slightly floral on later nosings.
Orange dominates more on the palate but peatiness follows quickly. Then the sharp lemon returns. There is a slight creaminess after it has been in the glass for a bit of time but this is still quite far removed from the typical Bunna profile, (which I've always thought of as creamy toffee-like).
Finish is quite long, dry and satisfying.
I love the standard unpeated Bunna but was not too impressed with the recent batch of peated releases. This however is excellent; just don't expect a classic Bunnahabhain flavour profile.
