Does anyone know if Elmer T Lee Bourbon is discontinued?

I looked around a few store this weekend and can't find it anymore. I like this bourbon and its was affordable. I picked up a W L Weller Antique 107 instead.

@Benancio, officially Elmer T Lee is still being produced and sold. Unofficially it is much scarcer than it used to be. Blame its popularity.

It's not exactly close to you (I think), but if you end up near Vegas a Total Wine or Lee's should have it.

It has been a year. Has anyone seen Elmer T Lee on shelves? ...anywhere in the past year?

@paddockjudge Its funny you mention Elmer T Lee. My liquor just texted me yesterday that he had just received 4 bottles, selling $30.50. The way he made it sound, its all he's getting , like Pappy.

I remember when it was always on the shelf. Whats up with Elmer T Lee? I like it. I have a few bottle in reserve.

@Benancio, yes, Elmer T. Lee is now an allocated whiskey.

@Victor, yes, Elmer T Lee and every other drop of Buffalo Trace whiskey is on allocation according to President and CEO, Mark Brown...every single drop.

Seems to be a lot of the standard Buffalo Trace at the LCBO

@paddockjudge
paddockjudge replied

@Nozinan, yes, the YOUNGER and more plentiful 'standard' BT bourbon will likely be available year-round because production has been increased in recent years allowing for the younger whiskies to be more plentiful. This, however, does not change the fact that very single drop of BT whisky from all Buffalo Trace distilleries, regardless of the distributor, is exceeded by the demand for it.

The local Coscto here in Michigan had no less than 40 bottles sitting on the shelves at $35 a piece! I grabbed 3 and let the rest of the hunters find the bounty

@paddockjudge there's been no ElmerT.Lee in the UK for over a year , just like its been for you. I wonder if they've been holding stocks back for some reason because there doesn't seem to be much of it anywhere!

After going more than a year of not seeing any Elmer T Lee around here, I finally saw 2 on a shelf near me... But at about 2x the previous price, these were selling for about $100.

@chrisbator That's crazy! I use to buy it any day of the week for $25. I like Elmer T Lee bourbon but its no $100 bourbon. Of course I use to buy Old Rip Van Winkle 10y 107 proof for $24 five years ago and last year I bought two bottles for $65 a piece.

Put your money in better places. Elijah Craig 12y barrel proof or Stagg Jr are better at half the price.

Victor replied

@Benancio, yes Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and Stagg Jr are 'half the price' of that $ 100 San Francisco bottle of Elmer T. Lee ...in the USA, IF you can find any to buy, at list price. Yes, the whisky world is very different today than it was 3 or 4 or 5 years ago. ECBP and Stagg Jr are not common bottles to find, and they are becoming very competitive to obtain, even in the US, even now.

This tale of raised prices and scarcity is a common one now.

It is crazy... Fortunately my local bevmo has Four Roses Single Barrel on special for $39 right now. And with the $10 off a $50 purchase I'll probably be heading over...

@Victor With my back log of whiskey I'm only bargain shopping. Old Grand Dad 114 is as good maybe better to some than Elmer T Lee. I'm not sure if I'd $30 for ETL? Maybe to trade?

ACE liquor online has a sale on OGD 114 for just shy of $20 each. If I had someone to send them to who would bring them back for me I would order more...

A local store I know has 1 bottle for $100. I laughed at the guy and went to my nearby specs where there are 12 bottles on the shelf for $33.

Sunday I found a single bottle of Elmer T Lee, only one they had and they didn't even bother making a shelf tag for it... Picked it up for $33. This was at a big chain store and their next closest bottle was almost 100 miles away.

So Weller 12yr and 107 has officially disappeared from Houston and San Antonio. I could readily get it earlier this year. Now the only store I know with a supply wants $80 for a 750ml of 12yr.

Well, it's March 23rd 2016, the last bottles of ELT filled on day 47 at BTD were all sold by June 2015. I have read ELT has gone from a 4x per year release to 2x however no ELT has been sent to any stores in Virginia since last April/May and even then is was two stores in Chesapeake and one in Charlottesville. The only bottle for sale online is $179.00...

@newreverie Thta's crazy. I prefer the 107 to the 12y IMHO. I'll look this weekend to see if we have anything on the shelves here.

All my expendable cash has been going towards golf. Been living on my stash for the last 12 months.

@Benancio, I'll be looking for Weller 107 in NM, and ETL.

@newreverie, I could dust off a bottle of Weller 12 and toss it in my duffle bag. Let me know.

@paddockjudge There are a few reliable stores where it does pop up on occasion. I only keep 1 bottle of ETL, W12, and W107 on hand at any given time. I reserve my duplicate space for whiskey that is out of production or a price point of a whiskey I enjoy that is too good to pass up.
