This is not just your next blend. This one is a blended malt (previously vatted malt). For this 10 Year Old Famous Grouse, John Ramsay used some noteworthy single malts like Highland Park, The Macallan, Glenrothes and the recently silenced Tamdhu.
The nose is simply exquisite. Perfumed with lime and baked apple, but also flowers and touches of sherry. The whole goes hand-in-glove with toffee and new leather. Marvellous nose!
On the palate, it's less creamy than excpected, but still a nice mouthfeel. It tastes wonderfully sweet with the apples and toffee from the nose at the fore. Add heather and walnuts and the picture is complete. It's even got a touch of peat.
The finish is long and heart warming and makes the components HP and Macallan shout out. No wonder it's so delicious.
This is clearly one of the best birds the Famous Grouse has to offer, that could without a doubt compete with many a single malt of the same age. Especially if you look at the price tag.
