Just like the 10 Year Old Malt, this is a Blended Malt (previously Vatted Malt), but this time of 12 year old single malts, all distilled in 1987. This one also contains Macallan, Highland Park and Glenrothes, so I expect is to be much like the previously tasted 10 Year Old, which I liked - a lot!
Oh, yes, that nose is absolutely stunning. Even better than the 10 Year Old with raisins, figs and orange peel besides the previously noted aromas. A touch of mint as well as mashed banana. More spices, too, including heather. And a great smoky touch: delicate, suble but so 'there'!
Silky soft, sweet and full on the palate. Creamy with citrus, nuts and spices. Lovely.
The finish is drying, but long and sweet on vanilla and oak, with the same wonderful whiff of peat as on the nose.
I was very fond of the 10 Year Old, but this 1987 is even better. Pity about the price tag, though. About 80 EUR.
