A Glentauchers of only 4 years old? Matured on a sherry cask and bottled at 66.6% ABV. That sound devlish and I am not only referring to the alcohol percentage.
As was to be expected, this is very spirity on the nose. Young and green with lots of garden herbs. At first it reminds me of Jägermeister instead of whisky. Some farmer’s butter shines through as does some eucalyptus. And then… errr… noodles with soy sauce! WTF?! That’s a first. Finally some unripe banana and nettles. Yup, this nose litteraly is all over the place except the right one. But you wouldn’t be able to tell it’s such a demonic ABV. It smells deviously soft. What a sneaky bastard!
On the palate, this is not good. Aggressive, spirity with barely any fruit. Instead I get some chemical sweetener over sultanas. A hint of caramel and pomelo do their utmost to penetrate this, but they never stand a chance. This is rough and unpleasant.
Unfortunately the finish is mercilessly long. Quite sweet and sour, but dry. Having said that, the finish is the best part.
Yes, I needed water. No so much to dilute this whisky (it did not improve, au contraire), but to thoroughly rinse the mouth afterwards. To be avoided.
