Grant's Triple Wood seems to be a re-branding of the old Family Reserve. The website specifies sherry cask, American oak, and refill bourbon barrel.
Nose: sweet with dried cherries and grape juice. Lightly aromatic with heather honey. A very light peatiness, a bit of tobacco, and then some oak.
Palate: quite light, with a bit of honey sweetness being met by a stronger peat taste and then some drying bitterness. Not a peaty whisky by any means--this is no Islay Mist--but it is there if you look for it. The fruitiness from the nose is muted on the palate.
Finish: a tad bitter. Fades on caramel and wet stone notes, with just a touch of smokiness.
Balance: a bit lacking. Bitterness throws things off. Pleasant aroma but the taste doesn't quite match. I would definitely go for the 8 Year Old Sherry Finish before this one.
