@talexander I also struck out on the 1792 Full Proof. I really need to establish a friendship with someone who works at the LCBO....

@OdysseusUnbound My nephew's girlfriend's sister got a job with the LCBO, but I think things are on hold until after COVID settles.
Apart from that, we like his girlfriend, so I'm hoping to make the arrangement permanent...

I got an email today about the LCBO’s “massive one day online sale, YUUUUUGE savings promised.” Hmmm, let’s see: lots of mediocre bottles with their regular prices marked up to make the actual price look like a sale, also lots of mediocre bottles “on sale” for $1 or $2 off. Wow. How impressive.

@OdysseusUnbound Hmmm, why does that sound so familiar? Oh yes, it's the BC Liquor Stores' strange concept of a sale. Deja vu all over again.

@OdysseusUnbound , not exactly the Black Friday sale at ZYN, is it?
4 years ago 1Who liked this?
@Astroke Definitely not. I can criticize Alberta for a lot of things, but their liquor store policies are A-OK.

Meanwhile, KWM, which already had the Newmake and the gins for sale, is releasing Milk and Honey Classic malt. In Calgary.
From a marketing perspective, if the LCBO were to make this available, given the demographics, it would sell faster than Wiser’s 23 at $105!

@OdysseusUnbound Agreed. let's hope that doesn't change.

There must be a JOKER at the LCBO. About a year ago the Ardbeg Corryvreckan was listed and available for $200.75 Canadian. Currently, the main Alberta stores are out of stock on Ardbeg oogie and cory, the prices were $95-$124. The last month the LCBO would release 2 bottles from one store at $150.00 Canadian each. Then once sold out the listing would disappear from their site, only to reappear the following week. I know that Halloween is approaching quickly upon us but, this is really taking things Boo far.
@Nozinan How many Alberta bottles do you still have to return to the LCBO?

@fiddich1980 Well, if you count the one I'm holding for @OdysseusUnbound, I think I have 2 that I got in Calgary. But it would have made more sense to return them BEFORE the price drop.
That said, the availability in Alberta seems to be sparse, and I can't speak for my colleaugue, but mine is not for returning... I plan to do what generations of people have done with their Ardbegs...drink it. Eventually.

@Nozinan I’m hoping to claim and drink mine. But the original Mad Max takes place in 2021, and the way things are going, I’m not ready to rule anything out yet.

I'm wondering if the LCBO reversed the numbers on the Ardmore Legacy. Priced at 47.95. So unlike them to have a single malt at that price. Perhaps, they really meant 74.95. Bought 2 just in case they realized their mistake.

@PeterG7 It was under $50 in February when I posted my review (I had snagged a mini in Alberta), so unlikely an error.

@Nozinan I agree not an error. Just wondering why it was priced so low. So unlike the LCBO

@PeterG7 Maybe a Manager's Sale, as it's still $49.95 on the website and has been for some time, but store managers do have the authority for store only sales to clear inventory.

In the last year, Glenfarclas 105 has gone from about $80 to $110. Thankfully there’s a bottle waiting for me in Toronto that I got for much less.

Well the LCBO has a small allocated lottery tomorrow. Hard to believe that 2 Ardbeg's that were shelf bottles everywhere else in Canada are now lottery.

@OdysseusUnbound Yes you do. I got one too. $80 after shipping and tax. You're welcome to pick up your ectopic collection anytime...

@Nozinan With Toronto scheduled to go back on full lockdown, I fear it may not happen until the new year. That gives me a chance to drink down my collection a bit.

@Astroke I entered for both Wellers and the EHT. I can’t wait to get the “go fuck yourself” email from the LCBO. Normally it would be frustrating, but in the age of Covid it will provide a nice sense of normalcy.

@OdysseusUnbound Always a crap shoot trying to beat the facebook speculators with 100's of accounts. All 3 of the Bourbon's are high end flip bottles that cost little compared to the return. I see no solution to the Bourbon speculation market. My beef with the LCBO is that even with their shitty Ardbeg pricing they are the only provincial monopoly that made them a lottery bottle that I am aware of.

@Astroke I've mostly made peace with the fact that I'll probably never win anything in an LCBO lotto (Weller, BTAC, Pappy, etc.). In the grand scheme of things, it's only whiskey. After my father-in-law passed away suddenly last year, and since this Covid pandemic, I've re-examined my priorities. By any objective measure I'm an incredibly lucky man. Not getting all the whiskey I want is truly a #FirstWorldProblem
of course, that doesn't mean I will totally stop bitching about the LCBO

And the LCBO / Waddington's auction starts Monday, if them dollars are burning a hole in your pocket

AND THE STREAK CONTINUES !!
I went oh-fer in the most recent Weller/EHT allocation lotto. Good times.

@talexander @OdysseusUnbound I am happy to be in the same club as both of you. This just proves good company is more important than good whisky.

@Nozinan At least some things are still normal in 2020. I look forward to getting skunked in the BTAC/Pappy lotto in the New Year. One must always stay focused on the future.

@OdysseusUnbound you must work for an insurance company, planning for future disasters.

@OdysseusUnbound I don't know anyone that was allocated one of the Bourbon's. I would think that there were not many bottles available and even less to the public. Many people got the overpriced Ardbeg's. Not much of a consolation paying 50% plus more for a lottery bottle that was cheaper on the shelves in every province. Time to check the mediocre ZYN sale I guess.
