Linkwood is an important part of Johnnie Walker, Haig, Bells, White Horse and Dimple, but there are also a couple of official bottlings and quite a few independents, like this one. This Linkwood was bottled at the age of 12 for the Milano Whisky Festival in March 2010 by James MacArthur. It’s a single cask, but probably only part, since only 120 bottles were available.
The nose is rather floral with hints of pastry and honey. Some crème brûlée and green apples, but nothing much else, I’m afraid. Rather simple.
It’s a bit oily on the palate and tastes soft and fruity, primarily apples and oranges. A pinch of white pepper. Some caramelized almonds at the end. Reminds me a bit of calvados.
The finish is somewhat astringent on licquorice and tannins.
Hmmm, it’s hard to compare to other Linkwood I’ve already tried. A somewhat bland nose and weird finish, but on the palate a nice malt.
