Berry Brothers & Rudd is of course very well known, so no intro needed. For years, the royal supplier with headquarters in London, they of course also bottle whisky themselves. This young Linkwood was bottled especially for the Whisky Club from Luxembourg. The hogshead yielded 324 cask strength bottles. I got a sample pressed into the hands by my good friend Benny.
Delicious nose on white fruit with pineapple and a hint of grape juice, something of mint and Jelly Beans. Green banana, peach, vanilla. A textbook example of what a bourbon barrel aged Linkwood should smell like.
It is wonderfully waxy on the tongue, full-bodied and gently seasoned, with both white fruit and some yellow fruit appearing. Think orange, banana, pineapple and peach. Deliciously fruity and perfectly balanced. Even reminds me of Clynelish for a moment. The strength is fine, the alcohol almost perfectly integrated. This is a feast!
The finish is pleasantly long on more of the same. One trick pony, you said? But if the trick is so beautiful, you won't hear me complain.
Clever cask selection by those Luxembourgers. Thank you, Benny, for this beautiful sample.
