Our good friends at Liquid Art have found another single cask that they considered bottle-worthy. And it must be, for this is a Linkwood from 2008 that was allowed to spend it’s hibernation on a bourbon cask. I got my hands on a bottle leftover at the WHISKE festival in Geel and I'm finally going to put this pale Speysider to the test with great pleasure.
Oh, yes, that's nice and fresh on apples, peach, gummi bears and vanilla on the nose. Some freshly cut grass and green banana as well as pineapple, sultanas and cottage cheese pie. Very playful and yet robust with its hefty ABV. White chocolate and a soft creaminess complete the picture.
Also on the it is immediately surprisingly waxy and full-bodied. I now get a fruit salad of European orchard fruit with a big pinch of pepper. Bright and inviting. I have the feeling that I am standing in the Limburg in the fields of the fruit region.
The finish is wonderfully long. The white fruit – now with a dash of honey – continues to reverberate for a long time. Absolutely delicious.
I completely understand why Linkwood is so popular with blenders. This is one of the fingerprint malts in White Horse, Haig, Dimple and Bells, you should know. But this cask was spared a blending fate and that's a good thing, because this is a blissful textbook example of how delicious Linkwood can be.
