I went on a bit of a treasure hunt for the 70th anniversary bottlings from Nikka distillery, which comes in a beautifull wooden box, holding inside it, 4 bottles. The first 2 are 12 year old cask strength bottlings of Yoichi and Myagikiyo, both of which i havent opened yet, the other two are first a Coffe Grain cask strength 12 year old and the Master's Blend which is the one i am reviewing here. The bottling is basically(more or less) a blending (vatting)of the three other bottlings, not knowing about other possible ingredients that could've made their way in. These specifics about the blend aside, this is one of the best japanese blends, and blends in general, that i've tasted, with only the "Nikka:Whisky from the Barrel" and the Hibiki 21 matching it. It has fresh nose with a beautifull medley of both sugary and salty citrus the replaced by chocolate dipped strawberries suceeded by red berries and yoghurt or red-berries yoghurt i am not sure, but beautifull nonetheless. The arrival on the palate is gristly with salty citrus and cacao making the first push with the strawberries and red berries arriving in tandem the developpement sees out the cacao with some wood spices alongside pecan nuts, almonds and gristly salted nuts. Then the developement sees the arrival of creamy yoghurt marrying with the aformentioned red fruits that were percieved on the nose. It then goes to a creamier tart flavour, which ressembles strawberry cream cake on the whole with lots of berries. The finnish sees the gristly salty flavour of the arrival make a comeback with cacao and spices right behind it, lingering in a beatifull, lengthy medley of the salty, spicy pecan nuts and caco mix setlling and coexisting with the strawberry cake/ red berry yoghurt body. Astonishing Blend.
