@wtrstrnghlt 2 things:
I must make it clear that I have absolutely no direct or indirect connection (other than as an individual purchaser of product) to the Bladnoch distillery. I only found out about it through Ralfy's site, and when my cousin was in England and I was able to order something to be brought back, I ordered it because it sounded interesting and was a small independent distillery and something completely not available in Canada. I've gotten bottles of it whenever possible ever since because it's awesome Scotch. I would never "push" something because I might receive benefit (actually, in my profession, I highly recommend only the most moderate alcohol use - and I practice what I preach). Perhaps I dwell on Bladnoch too often, but only because I wish to share my excitement about an excellent Scotch Whisky, and I feel as a small producer it is often overlooked even though the quality puts it in the big leagues.
The 22 year old would not be something produced (ie distilled and matured) by the Raymond Armstrong ownership, and I have not tried other "vintages" so cannot comment on quality.
But if you are looking

to be clear:
I have no financial or other interest in Bladnoch. I simply think Raymond Armstrong's distillery makes a great product (so can't speak to the 22 year old that was not produced under his ownership), and share my excitement in it.
If you're interested in something unique but not too high in ABV, I might stay away from the 55% stuff I've enjoyed, but, I did send a 46% sample of a sherry matured10 year old Bladnoch from Master of Malt to a friend ( well, it was supposed to be for me but "never made it") and he had only great things to say.
That would fill all the criteria: Not too strong, sherry influence, not run of the mill, within the budget.

oops, I thought my first post disappeared so I wrote a second one. I guess it does look like I'm pushing something... sorry

@Nozinan I didn't mean to suggest you had any connection with Bladnoch. Pushing it was maybe the wrong description. I ment to say that you were very enthusiastic about it and it was contagious.
Anyway, you made me aware of Bladnoch and when I saw the 22y and after that the review about it, I was interested.
Again, sorry if I suggested otherwise my friend.

@wtrstrnghlt Thx for your suggestion but I guess this is not what I am searching as a present. I don't want to get him something lemon-like/zesty/spicy but now I personally are interested in Bladnoch ;)
Atm I think I am going to get him a Knockando 15yo. A local store has it in a wooden box, really good-lookin. And from descriptions it seems to be great value for money too. I already tasted the 18yo and liked it. I heard the 15 and 18yo aren't that different. Besides that the store also has a Sonnalta for 70€... @Victor are you reading this? :D
