Some veggies like carrot sticks and celery, along with relatively plain crackers with a variety of milder cheeses are a couple of items that keep people fed, and the palate relatively cleansed between pours.

@scotchdc What whiskies are you serving? Are you looking for specific food pairings or simple palate cleansing foods?

Smoked salmon pairs nicely with Islay malts. I usually provide wood oven (Montreal style) bagels, cream cheese and lox, as well as chocolate. My wife will often bake some sort of baked goods like cookies or brownies. We also have cheese and crackers.

Here's what we use: grapes and sliced apples work extremely well; crackers of various sorts and/or plain bread like sliced baguettes; black and green olives, maybe hummous and/or baba ganoosh, three or four cheeses, and deli meats. These always work well.

...and yes, as Pudge says, carrots and celery are also good...and you can often add chocolate in some form, including brownies, also, as mentions @Nozinan.

@Victor I like the idea of Humus, flavour and protein and goes well on bread or crackers. but I would be sure to have some that has no garlic. I think garlic would kill most whisky.
In fact I like most of your choices. I've been dieting so long I'm ready to eat anything. But the good news is I tried on my tux yesterday, and while I'm sure I don't look as distinguished as your photo, it fits! Finally and just in time.

I will second smoked salmon with Islay whisky.
I suggest cheeses like brie & camembert. Also pepperoni, 80% dark chocolate, caviar, chilli dark chocolate and sashimi (tuna or salmon).

Thank you so much, @Pudge72 @YakLord @Nozinan @Victor @Frost @Anxyous for all your helpful advice! I think that celery/carrot, smoked salmon, crackers and cheese (brie, cheddar, camembert) will certainly be making an appearance, as well as some delicious dark chocolate. For anyone interested in some adventurous whisky/cheese combinations, I found the following article of interest this morning - thetimes.co.uk/tto/public/…. I'm not sure about the goats cheese, but the cheddar pairings sound delicious!

I'm holding my first whisky tasting in a couple of weeks (just for friends and colleagues), and I'm a bit stumped as to what kinds of snacks I should serve alongwith. Does anyone have any suggestions? The event will be in the early evening (6.30-8.30) so that people can still make dinner plans afterwards, but I'd like to provide something fairly neutral and whisky-friendly to eat. The simpler the better! Thanks in advance.
