@A'bunadhman Same here. Will probably open up a "summer" malt today seeing as though it finally seems to be getting warmer.

Beach Park, IL US bout a 40min drive north of the great state of Chicago IL. Anyone near by or going on a trip to Chicago, let me know and I'll direct you to some good bars and liquor depots for quality selection and prices on whisky and other wonderful drams. There is a scotch bar in the city with over 30 different drams and a tequila bar with something like 200 types of tequila.

just scrolling through this discussion, just noticed and find it curious that there doesn't appear to be anyone from the traditional homes of whisky Scotland and Ireland. Funny that?

@IainVH Curious indeed. Perhaps, being in the "home" of whisky, and immersed in it, there's less of a need for those in Scotland and Ireland to turn to the Internet to find like-minded folk, or to find information?

@Mammon Cool.. have to ask, have you tried Swiss single malt whisky? e.g. Säntis seems to be highly rated.

I'm based in Glenrothes, Scotland. Sadly not the home of The Glenrothes, that's up in Rothes. My 'local' whisky will be Daftmill when they finally release something.
There you go IainVH, someone from a traditional whisky area! Must admit I noticed the same thing.

@evarees and @Wodha - my wife and I would be interested in meeting up sometime. We could either meet at one of the local establishments that have a nice whisky selection or we could have a whisky tasting with selected bottles from each of our cabinets.

@systemdown. Yes I tried a couple of swiss whisky (including two from Säntis-Distillery). But even with all my available patriotism I can not recommend them. Too young, too less structure. Probably they will be descent whiskies in 2-3 years. Another backdraw are the high prices. Said Sänits is easily around 100 $. Still you should try them (any swiss whisky) if you have the possibilities

Nokesville, Virginia, about 45 minutes south west of DC. Just moved out here about a year and a half ago from Hawaii.

@Mammon Okay great.. yeah I'll definitely try them someday; I was in Switzerland a couple of years ago but was not aware of the existence of Swiss single malts at the time. I'll have to start a European whisky "todo" list so next time I'm in Europe I can try and track them down!

Originally born to Irish parents in Phoenix, Arizona, I travel a lot with my job as an opera singer. I am based primarily in Weimar, Germany. I have lived for times in Graz & Salzburg, Austria as well. I am about to be in Austin, Texas for a few months and then back across the pond to the EU. Who knows where?!

@OCeallaigh, you sure do get around , I bet you are privy to many of what some of us would consider the more rare malts. Things can be quite limited here in Canada at times. I am envious...
