@BlueNote
Close to 40% off - Australian prices though, so 40% off might just as well only bring it to be in line with the most of the rest of the world.

I've been tossing up which bottle to buy next: Kilchoman Machir Bay, Ledaig 10, Port Charlotte Scottish Barley, Springbank 10, another bottle of Kilkerran 12.......... I decided I had sufficient representation from Campbeltown for now and I was in the mood for peat. The cheapest place to buy whisky here is online, but I didn't really want my other half seeing it in the bank statements (and I had some cash put aside), so I scoured the offerings of the local shops (yes, devious, I know). I settled on this - just sniffed its cork so far but I'll give it a try later on.

@Hewie I keep my collection documented in a spreadsheet on my laptop. I took said laptop to Calgary. Left spreadsheet open one night. Wife decided to use said laptop. Wife asked "how many bottles do you have?"
oops.

@Hewie, I'm not a peat-head; however, I do enjoy the bold flavours that come wrapped in smoke and iodine. Port Charlotte Scottish Barley Heavily Peated is an excellent choice. You won't be disappointed.

@Nozinan I have been asked that same question and had to come up with some serious creative accounting. It's pretty obvious what I have in my cabinet, but not what I have in the closet in my office.

A couple of bottles of the 2002 Talisker Distillers Edition (2013 bottling) ordered last year during the usual end of year sales arrived today.
Managed to get these for about $20 less per bottle than the regular price for the standard 10 Year Old - quite a bargain as they make quite good drinking, even more so at that price.

Twelfth Day of Christmas.
A package arrived at my door at sunset, four bottles rescued from Calgary. Many thanks to @Nozinan for rounding up Amrut Intermediate Sherry 57.1% a.b.v., Wiser's Red Letter 2013 45% a.b.v., Corby's Lot No.40 Cask Strength 12 YO 55% a.b.v., and Canadian Rockies 21 YO Batch 001 46% a.b.v.
A great way to end the Yuletide and begin 2018.

A friend had a couple of bottles being shipped from Calgary and asked me if I wanted to add anything. Since he scooped the only 2 bottles of 2017 William Larue Weller they had, I decided on this as it looked very interesting, had numerous good reviews and was $155 CDN at my door. 2015 limited release with 3886 total bottles. Wish the ABV was higher than 46% but what can you do.

@Astroke let us know what your impressions of this are. I've been tempted to do a H2H with this Benriach and a Bowmore Laimrig both, have that peat and sherry profile

@fiddich1980 I read from allthingswhisky blog the exact same thing regarding the Laimrig comparison of which I am down to my last bottle of (traded 1 for a bottle of Kentucky Owl Rye and drank the other)

@Astroke , nice choice. That Benriach Albariza is superb even at 46%, the peated profile is really superb and on par with the likes of sherried bowmore or Caol Ila.

I didn't buy it but my friend just gave me four sample bottles of:
Kentucky Owl 11yr Rye
Springbank 18yr
Hibiki 12yr
Glen Scotia 15yr
Looking forward to trying these!

@Astroke, May I ask from which store in Calgary you bought the Benriach 18?

Pedro and peat. I like the sound of that as long as the PX is not overly dominant.

@DevD Craft Cellars, it was the last bottle they had. My friend got the only 2 WLW's they had as well.

I bought two bottles, because I’m weak.

@OdysseusUnbound Just finished a bottle of Dissertation (yes I know, wrong post). I have a backup but may get another. The last few pours of this were much better than the first opening pours. I totally agree with the air time statement.

@Astroke I rated it 89-90 here, but that was after about 2 weeks and 4-5 drams. By the end of the bottle, I would have rated it at least 93. I’m hoping to nab at least one more bottle for the Vault.

I just returned from my local outlet with a Macallan 15. They won't be carrying it again and it was deeply discounted at 50% off the regular price. I also had a $5.00 off coupon. Final price was 53.00

Due to an unexpected, but most welcome little tax rebate, I've treated my better half to a bottle of Don Papa rum and bought myself Amrut Fusion and Green Spot.
I think the former was a necessity to acquire the latter, truth be told

Longrow 18....so I can cross it off my 2018 Most Wanted list.

On Sunday I went to one of my favorite 'warehouse' type liquor store to pick up the whisky I am about to mention. Many of you know I also like to find the diamonds in the smaller liquor shops, that are often over looked (references to posts made last year on this very thread).
Bunnahabhain 14yo Limited Release Pedro Ximénez Finish, for 100 USD, not including tax.
Reasons:
The information they provide on the label: A. Bottle 796 / 6768 B. Warehouse: No. 8 C. Distillation Date: 24/03/2003 D. Bottling Date: 21/06/2017 E. Distillery Manager signature F. ABV: 54.3% G. Natural Color H. Unchilled Filtered
When I saw it on the liquor store's website, which didn't provide much information, I went to Master of Malt.
Here is what they had written up, which also caught my attention:
Bunnahabhain 2003 PX Bottling Note A limited edition bottling from the Bunnahabhain distillery on the north-east coast of Islay. This is a 14 year old single malt, distilled in 2003 and was initially aged in second-fill Sherry casks until 2011. At this point, the whisky was transferred over to yet more Sherry casks - first-fill Pedro Ximénez casks! It was bottled in 2017 at cask strength.
Well, I am excited to open this up, and once I have a few drams, I am sure I will return to Connosr to write up my experiences.
I am hoping this Bunnahabhain (new for me that is) will be a good way to start 2018.
