@Alexsweden My friend went a little crazier than me, I think his tally was 15 bottles. I kept myself to just one bottle from every distillery. Well except Bowmore, Jura and Laphroaig where i didn't make a purchase.

@Nickh that PC CC:01 is one of my favourites, not really a cognac sort of person but love a nice Armagnac, bit of a peasant at heart. The whole package NCF, No colour added and cask strength it really hits the mark.

I'm tempted to travel internationally just to get my hands on one of those PC CC:01s myself.

@Pete1969 Agree. I'd not tried a cognac finish before. I thought it was fantastic. Apparently it was a popular purchase at the Bruichladdich shop.

@ajjarrett Yup that's the good old version you have! Take a good care of what you have as the new ones are sure different (slightly worse, to my taste) like virtually all the scotch these days.

@Nickh, was that a finish? From memory, I thought it was a full maturation.

Just bought an 18yo Ben Nevis bottled by John Milroy vintage 1997. It’s difficult to find official bottling of Ben in SoCal even more so indie bottlings. A member here said this was excellent in another thread, so when I saw it for around $60 I jumped at the chance. I have my eye on a 26 yr old from Signatory, but before taking a more expensive plunge, I’ll see if I like the profile with this one.

@MadSingleMalt Your'e right. It is full maturation. Obviously wasn't listening to the guy at Bruichladdich when he gave us a taste!

Ardbeg 10 (sample for now) as someone kindly suggested I give it a try after I revealed my strong liking for Ledaig 10 to see how I feel about the Ardbeg in terms of smoke (like) vs. Islay medicinal (don't like). That'll be this evening's experiment :-)

@RikS i shall sit on the impression a while before I comment, suffice to say that this must be the most economical whisk I ever tried... 30min after finishing a wee dram and the taste is still lingering on the insides of my cheeks...!

I just bought a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black. I make it a habit to keep a bottle of whisky at my in-laws’ place and I finished my Four Roses Small Batch this past weekend so the JW Black will take its place.

@OdysseusUnbound My brother in law keeps a well-stocked cabinet of his own (with my assistance and guidance). I don't get there more than once a year because he's 3 provinces west, but the trip is always worth it...in many ways. And the whisky, when we get to it, is good too.

Ordered a bottle of Hazelburn 10 as Hazelburn is the only whisky in the Springbank line up I'm still to try.

@Nozinan My in-laws are about 3 blocks away, so i don’t stock their house with “top-shelf” stuff. Also, my in-laws have company often so I only leave things that I wouldn’t be devastated losing. My M-I-L is pretty adamant that she doesn’t let anyone touch my whisky, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.

@OdysseusUnbound Always wise. My BIL will occasionally dram without me, but if there's something we both want to try he makes sure there's some available for me.

@RikS that's a good thing, right? So, what did you think of the Ardbeg 10?

My allocation of this year’s Ardbeg Day release has arrived - 4 bottles of the Ardbeg Groove (Committee Release bottling.
A peaty wine cask matured whisky - match made in heaven.

@Hewie It's definitely not for the faint hearted, but I did appreciate it actually. That said, hardly an every day dram in my mind, but I can see how there will be evenings when I may crave the intensity of it. In my humble view it was a bit 'mono dimensional', there is some nuance, I was struck of how sweet it is, but the peaty/smokey elements is, to my palate, hugely dominant. Makes me quite curious now what the Uigeadail will be like, if it juggling a few more dimensions in there. I'm grateful for the recommendation though, or I might have steered clear of this one - now I'm glad I didn't.

@RikS, the whole Ardbeg line is quality. You got some good stuff in front of you.

@sengjc Didn't take that long to arrive: impressive. I had a little taste of this at Ardbeg.. definitely worth cracking open!

@sengjc, how's that Grooves suiting you?
I'm seeing very positive reviews for it, unlike that Kelpie last year that earned very mixed responses. This Grooves thing seems to be running counter to the usual pattern of Ardbeg's annual releases: not so much breathless chatter about it, and lots of "wow, this is as good as the standard releases" opinions.

@Nickh @MadSingleMalt
Thanks. Looking forward to giving this a shot on Ardbeg Day 2018.

Found last years Parker's Heritage 11 SB on an auction site today for about twice msrp including tax, shipping, etc... Why did I buy it? Because I never saw it for sale by a retailer last year that wanted anything under $300usd (without tax or shipping) for it either online or in store. The only place I've seen similar prices is trading forums but then provenance is questionable there and you're always taking the risks associated such as breakage. Pull the trigger on it the second I saw the buy it now option.

Nothing exciting but a bottle of JW Green Label. It was on sale at a great price and I like it!
There is new packaging which is a bit 'cheaper' than the more recent incarnation. I'd say Diageo tend to have quite thin and naff boxes - the old Green Label was an exception. So long as the juice is still good I don't care but thought it worth a mention for posterity.

The JW range doesn't get a lot of love from whisky fans but the black and the green are both decent whiskies imo

I second @Wierdo 's sentiment, people readily shit on JW at large and with reason but there are gems in the line-up. Black label is decent value and I've had a few really good smoky batches of late. The new iteration of Green label is superbly crafted, rich and well balanced.

@cricklewood I do like my current bottle of JW Green, but as I have so many bottles open, this is not one OI can keep backup stocks of as it will be a year or 2 before I even have to think about replacing it. And if the price shoots up or they discontinue it again....I can live with that.

@Nozinan I hear you, in our neck of the woods it has a lot of competition in it's price bracket (80$), so it's unlikely I'd buy another bottle soon. It's one of those whiskys that's likely well priced in UK supermarkets especially when there are sales, making it an easier choice for a regular dram.

Ok I had no intention of buying anything as i'm leaving on vacation in 4 days but then I saw one of the stores in the outlaw province received some new arrivals. I bought a Glenfiddich Winter Storm for my brother as he is a total Glenfiddich fanboy and it sold out instantly everywhere. I was going to get some Octomore 8.3...but by the time I returned to my cart it was sold out that's what I get for perusing for too long, I should be thankful to whomever it is for sparing me the last minute expenses.
@RikS , yup that's what I figured, that's a reasonable price for it.
