Russell's Reserve Single Barrel....What an absolutely phenomenal whiskey! I've always been a Wild Turkey fan but THIS! Perfectly balanced at that.

I bought it because my cabinet is lacking in bourbon and, although I have been mostly a Malt fan most of my life, I've been hankering for the taste moreso lately.

@Hewie I haven't heard the expression "tickles my fancy" in quite some time. People don't use such eloquent speech now days.

@Robert99 This is an older one, probably 2012 or 2013 since it is the purple one. From 2014 and forward it has been a white box with an open hole in. Even though it is difficult to see, you can find which year it is on the backside of the label on the Longrows that are purple. You have too look though the liquid and read....

Didn’t buy it, but I just got a bottle that was 7/8 full (just the “neck” gone) of Glendronach 12. My wife’s 87 year old grandfather has about 6 unopened bottles of this and he gave me an open one because I helped his wife home (she’s quite ill) from our place. I told him this was unnecessary, but he insisted. I’ll keep it at the back of the cabinet for now, for when he comes over. The whiskies I have with him tend to taste better because of the company and context.

Two purchases today in fact... after my little sampling for 'something sweetish for a summer evening' I'm taking delivery of a Balvenie 14yrs Caribbean Cask. Didn't really appreciate the Balv 12, so it was a tossup between the Caribbean and th 17. The latter also nice, but opted in the end for the Caribbean due to its slightly more spicy, toasted notes and, as I felt it, longer and more interesting finish. But, I won't spit in the glass if someone offers me a 17!

Second purchase is a Private Preserve - thought I'd try that one out as I'm by now ending up having quite a few bottles open and it seems a small price/effort if it works to keep the goods happy and nice for a longer time in the cupboard.

@RikS I need to try the Caribbean Cask again. I had it a couple of years ago and found it too sweet, but it's getting lots of good reviews lately.

Yesterday at the distillery hand bottled the Auchenoshan Distillery Cask, distilled Feb 2008, bottled yesterday May 2018, 1st fill ex-Oloroso, 60.4%.

Today bought Glengoyne Cask Strenght Batch No. 006. Distillery cask and teapot dram unavailable

@BlueNote It's certainly somewhat sweet - I tried it in a 'lineup' with Glendronach, Glengoyne, farclas and the 12/17yrs from Balvenie in search of something sweet now for summer (I only have the Quinta and an A'bunah in that genre). It's turned out to be the one I liked more as it had a slightly spicier and more dry kind of sweetness than the PX/Oloroso and that toasted nuance. Let me know what you think if you get it again?

Stopped in planning to pick up a Scallywag 13....... but didn't see that... maybe I was blinded by the Rock Oyster 18 I did get.

Connemara Peated - This was a very thoughtful gift from my partner as she's been in Germany since the weekend. Not one I'd have gone for but always been curious about so a great gift in that sense. It's Cooley so probably decent stuff as well but 40%, coloured and CF . . .

Has anyone had this? Reviews seem quite mixed . . .

@RianC, standard Connemara Peated is rather mild fare. OK. Not horrible. Not exhilarating. When and if you get the chance try some Connemara Cask Strength. Muy bueno stuff. We are just about finished with our bottle of Connemara CS, but I'd love to replace it.

@RianC, I 100% agree with what @Victor said.

Connemara is totally OK. Connemara CS is where it's at.

@RianC living in Bonnie Wee Scotland. If your up this way let me know, work in whisky these days so can do a decent tasting for you. That Auchentoshan was amazing stuff. Only few bottles left out of that cask though

Was saying on the 'What you didn't buy thread' about a 13 Hazelburn Sherry Wood - well it came back in stock today and one of ~9000 bottles (whit whoo!) so they will go like hot cakes, as they say. Never tried Hazelburn but about time and need a solid sherried dram to off set all the peat. 13 years in oloroso casks, triple distilled Springbank(ish) funk!

To that end I also opted for an Ardbeg Uigeadail to get free delivery (so, you know, I saved money really . . . ) grimacing

Recent whisky additions:

  • A bottle of the 2006 Benromach Chateau Cissac.

  • A bottle of the 2005 Benromach Hermitage (2014 bottling).

  • A bottle of Nikka Coffey Malt.

These came without their packaging and were healthily discounted as a result.

Good discounts, quality quaffing whisky, good enough reasons for me.

Wasn't sure where to put this but the Hazelburn 13 has now sold out. Glad I jumped on this (and it goes someway to justifying my purchase(s)) It will be drunk but I wouldn't mind betting I could flog it for upwards of £80 - £100 fairly soon! Crazy

Just picked up ardbeg an oa. Curious about the vatting and trying it on its own merit (refraining from comparing with uigeadail). But also thought could be fun to do a head to head with 10/oogie/an oa...

Oops.. Also picked up an old pulteney 12. Don't have high expectations but many have told me how "different and unique" it is so at only £24 on sale I thought I'd satisfy my curiosity....!
