My first two Whisky purchases (ever)
Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or - why? I have tried it before and loved the sweetness and lemon/vanilla/spice/coconut flavours it gives - also my other big passion is wine, so it was a perfect cross over
Belvenie 15 yr old Single Cask - why? My 2nd ever bottle purchased. My Grandfathers favourite Whisky was the double wood, so I was looking for something in the same style but different. Saw a review online about it and that it was not being produced anymore, so I tracked down a bottle in NZ and grabbed it - hoping it will be good!
Very novice I know. But hey, you have to explore these things!

Teeling Single Grain @ 46% batch 10/'14: I have a bottle open and it is improving amazingly and changing on, more or less, a daily basis and developing the most wonderful treacle / golden syrup nose and palate.
So, of course, I've had to keep an eye on things with the end result that the 'tide is going out', somewhat faster than I had planned. Anyway, replaced the Teeling with a bottle from the same batch and will decant this very day!

A few bottles of Kavalan Soloist: Vinho Barrique, Bourbon & Sherry variants - what can I say... I am sheep. Nah, I actually like Kavalan since my late uncle-in-law introduced it to me. Getting my hands on some before the recent win makes this Taiwanese drop go the way of the Japanese... scarce and expensive.
Also a few bottles of each: Arran 18 Year Old, 1994 Glendronach 20 Year Old PX Cask bottling for Abbey Whisky and 1996 Ben Nevis 18 Year Old Sherry Butt bottling for Whiskybase. I hear these are good stuff.
Last and not least a bottle of Springbank 17 Year Old Sherry Wood to add to the Springbank-Longrow-Hazelburn collection.

@sengjc , nice score on that Springbank.
I just bought a few single-cask IBs vintage-dated from the 1990s to share with my kids one day, all thanks to the IB clearance sale going on at Binny's right now:
•1992 Longmorn
•1996 Arran
•1998 Glenburgie
•1998 Bowmore

@Pudge72 I thought the 10yo in the 35cl bottle was tasty, but also quite weak at 40% and I could'nt find the 18yo similarities at all. Still better than most budget Scotches, so not too many complaints :)

Just picked up Highland Park Dark Origin. I have read some mixed reviews and I am very excited to put my own subjective experience to the test with this potentially sulfured whisky!

@PeatyZealot
Quite different to the American style ryes that I have had. The colour is quite impressive as is the nose although the there appears to be more sweetness in there as compared to what you would usually expect. The mouthfeel has a "softness" to it, sort of glides and coat the whole mouth. Like the nose, there is evidence of sweetness but more in a herbaceous way. Also a hint of parsley?? Quite dense in body, almost like a sherried malt.

Four Roses Limited Edition 2013 and Auchentoshan Valinch 2012 . I was looking on a whisky website and these two were available. I had to pay a bit over the odds ,but only a little bit. The bourbon was £93 and the Auchentoshan £49. Since they are no longer available I thought it was a price worth paying.

@Alexsweden I'm having a dram at the moment just to tell you what I think of it and the answer is not very much at this time. I like the nose and I quite like the grassy citrusy taste as well but I get the feeling that it's just a little young at the moment and I think I'll leave it a couple of weeks to settle down in the bottle before I have another one. Another barley forward malt I can happily recommend is the 14 year old Scapa. This is the 50cl Chivas Brothers cask strength edition. I don't know if its available where you are but its one of the best drams I've had.

@KRB80 , is that Springbank 14 Fino the one from 1996 at 55.3%? If so, I've got a bottle of the same in my stash. Are you planning to open it soon?
(My bottle's going to stay closed for a while, so I'd like to enjoy it vicariously through others' comments in the meantime.)

@OlJas Yep. It says "Fino Cask 265 - Distilled in 1996" on the back and is bottled at 55.3%
I don't plan on it opening it any time very soon but most of my bottles are open on a whim so who knows!!? LOL

I went to Durango for the Easter weekend. I bought 2 WL Weller 12y bourbons, 2 Smith & Cross Navy Strength Rum, 1 Cazadores Extra Anejo Tequila 2011.

@KRB80 , right on. My Springbank Fino is supposed to be part of the stash that I'm holding until my kids (now toddlers) are old enough to drink some 1900s malts with their old man, but this bottle is probably the one LEAST likely to last that long.

@KRB80 -- oh, and I'll repeat what I said to someone else online who reported buying one of these a few weks ago: I can't believe any of these are still on the shelf. A Springbank single-cask OB (an OB!) fully matured in a sherry casks from 2011 is still to be found?! Weird. And I don't know if you want to share the price you paid, but it was $95 US by me earlier this year. Totally reasonable in today's market.

@OlJas Yeah, it's pretty crazy. There is still one left as well as the Olorosso and Amontillado casks. They also have a 11yr Madeira. I paid $86.

Glendronach 15 Revival - why? Tasted in store, loved it, on further research seems like great value and quality Really enjoying it

@KRB80 , if I happen to get to the East Coast anytime soon, I'll be begging you for pointers to this magical store that still has the Madeira bottle. And $86 for the Fino? Good price too.
Unless, do they ship? Care to share your source?
9 years ago 0
@OlJas The Madeira is only $73 or so. I am pretty ceratin they ship because, as we were conversing about a paticular Caol Ila bottling a few months back, an employee was telling me about this one guy in California that they ship stuff to every couple months had picked said bottling. I've posted their website before in another thread I believe: www.joyalsliquors.com Their inventory/pricelist is fairly up to date. Some things they still have, others they do not, as well as some stuff they have that's not on the list but it's few and far between. Slainte!
