Well, I was impatient and pulled the trigger on a bottle of Bruichladdich Infinity 3.1

2004 Millstone 100 Rye by Zuidam - keen to see how this compares to the more American versions.
Also have some BenRiach 16 Year Old Sauternes Finish on order - seems to be relatively well priced as compared to other 16 year olds in the marketplace.

Teeling Small Batch- Irish whiskey finished in an ex-Rum cask surely caught my attention. ABV 46% and a competitive price.

Black Bottle 10 Year Old Islay Vatted Scotch.
I found three bottles in a tiny liquor store in the Texas Pan Handle. I bought all three bottles, in the original box covered in dust. Not sure how to read the date codes could be either 2001 or 1995.
I love the original no age BB, can't wait for the right time to try the BB 10y.

Clynelish 19yo, 1995 - independant bottling from Liquid Library (a Belgian bottler I think). Because I love Clynelish (almost as good as old Brora, I find) and other than the 14yo and the dist.edition there aren't many OB's around (most of it goes straight into JW black label). This is bottled at a delicious 50% abv!

@broadwayblue , those K&L bottles recently got a boatload of reviews over at the LA Whisky Society:
Main page, where as of today these reviews are still new enough to be in the recent reviews browser thing: www.lawhiskeysociety.com

OlJas, Thanks. I actually just ordered a bottle of the Caol Ila over the weekend. Nice to see that reviews have been favorable. Now I need to reach out to get my open orders shipped. I have the 32 yo Caol Ila from last year and a 1974 Domaine de Baraillon 40 yo armagnac I am looking to get my hands on as well!

My wonderful wife bought me home a bottle of Glenmorangie Tusail from Naples FL. Might not see it in these parts for a while if ever so it was a lovely surprise.

Highland Park 10. I didn't have an "everyday" bottle open, and I enjoy Highland Park a lot, so this was an easy choice.

@mscottydunc
let me know how it compares to the 10 which I believe is still available in Ontario

@Nozinan The 10 is what I bought, do you mean the 12? I enjoy both, I would have bought the 12 but the LCBO I was at was sold out of it.
9 years ago 0
yes I meant 12 @mscottydunc
It is bottled at 43% and is also one I would not turn away (unless there was something better). The 10, at 40% seems anaemic. let me know how it is

@Nozinan...the 12 is a different profile from the 10 (I get more bourbon barrel characteristics with the 12, more sherry-like notes with the 10). To my mind, the 10 shares a similar-ish profile to the 18. The 10 shares enough nice notes with the 18 to make it worth a purchase at 1/3 the cost of the 18 (though I would get the 18 in a heartbeat if I could).

Teeling Single Grain Irish Whiskey finished in 'Californian Cabernet Sauvignon Casks' @46%: I have enjoyed their Blend enormously and this has excellent reviews, is affordable and I think probably unique among Irish Whiskies; it is certainly interesting! I will pick one up today - That's the plan but my local megastore has quite a few new Whiskies all of which sound interesting and none of which I've tried, incl. a couple of super premium Teelings at 26 and 30yo. I may make it to the register with my plan intact...I may not! What impresses me most about Jack Teeling is that he has set out to excell; no color, no chill, all expressions at 46% and affordable (at least at the entry level), I'm impressed!

@A'bunadhman Enjoy the single grain - it's a beauty, and the price is excellent!

I bought a bottle of Laphroaig PX Cask at the Cancun Airport. I guess it is a ramped up triple cask since it is finished in pedro ximenez vs oloroso.

@Anxyous:Thanks, I'll stick to the plan, then! Didn't get out to the store today had a tooth out, what fun!... Tomorrow I'll get the grain. 'Can't imagine what Whiskey out of Cab/Sav. casks will taste like.
On egin! Topa! Eskerriska!

@A'bunadhman The cabernet influence is actually quite subtle - you don't get the obvious berry flavours, you get with most wine finishes, but neither do you get the sometimes concomittant bitterness.
The quality of the spirit itself is quite high as well - it's great at such a young age (3 years, if I remember correctly).

Another bottle each of the Ardbeg Supernova SN2014 and Parker's Heritage Collection Bourbon 7th Edition "A Promise of Hope".
A couple of rare-ish bottles to stash away.

Did a presentation in Minneapolis and picked up a Glendronach 18 Allardice and Willett 6 Year Old Family Estate Rye on the way back.
Pleased on both accounts

Jura 1993 JI Cask - It was pretty cheap and I figured I'd best get my hand on it while it's still around.

'The Feathery' vatted blend scotch.
An 'upscale' store chain nearby has it on sale ($48), and apparently the Whisky Advocate rates it at a score of 92.
It sorta reminds be of an Aberlour.

Sometimes you gamble and win; sometimes not. This past weekend I just happened to stop in a small liquor store in a Detroit area community. For a small store it had a surprising large, diverse variety of liquor. Floor to ceiling shelves. I noticed they carried Aberlour A'bunadh and that it carried an outdated price. The last time I say that price was for A'bunadh batches 41-45. Because it was placed on the highest shelf and required a tall step ladder to reach, plus the clerk was well into his senior years, I felt compelled to gamble and buy this bottle, regardless of the batch. Turns out it was from batch 46. Not a batch that I have had before. Overall reviews for this batch are OK. And I was in need of an A'bunadh since I finished my last bottle several months ago. So I went ahead and purchased this bottle. Looking forward to cracking open later this week.

I have a bottle of the 46 waiting to be opened in April. When I turn 46. I'm looking forward to trying it though the reviews aren't as kind as 44,45,47,49.
It used to be that I went through 1 1/2 to 2 bottles of the stuff a year (including archiving and sharing), but either reduced consumption or broadening horizons has slowed things down, especially over the last 6 months. While it is one of my top drams, weeks can go by between drams.
I used to worry I would run low if I didn't have a batch for each birthday. But with a fair number of back-batches, I'm looking to stop buying ahead after I snag a 50. I'll look out for exceptional reviews and pick one up here or there.

I am considering Glenmorangie Taghta . . . anyone have any comments about this one? Is it one worth picking up?

Benromach 10, because Ralfy said it was his favorite whisky of 2014. I paid $52 for a 750ml bottle, and it's worthy. I don't get the peat that others mention, but I love the fact that it has a particular ingredient I can't quite describe and I'm still trying to recognize. Enjoyable!
