I just picked up a Wild Turkey 101, because it’s one of my favourite casual sippers and we’ve got company coming over this weekend. Our friend likes an Old Fashioned cocktail, but only ever makes hers with Jim Beam White Label. I’m looking to help her upgrade.
I also bought an Old Weller Antique 107. I’m not sure why, since I don’t like the W.L. Weller 12 at all so far...Maybe I’ll mix both in equal parts as some have suggested, or maybe I’ll keep the OWA tucked away for a future trade.

@OdysseusUnbound I'm loving the WT 101 I've crushed two bottles since the spring. Lest y'all think I'm a drunk, most of one was used to make bourbonade for a party. Let us know if your friend gets converted?

Today's purchase wasn't whisky but Rum. Plantation OFTD 69%abv...it's a blend of rums from Guyana, Jamaica and Barbados and one of the few Plantation products that has no added sugar.
Why was simple, it's bold, great in cocktails, a bit hot when neat but serviceable and only 40$. Also makes killer caramel sauce.

@OdysseusUnbound WT 101 is awesome in an Old Fashioned, and I hope your friend can taste and enjoy the difference -- so much more flavor and body in WT 101!

@cricklewood I’m expecting she will “convert”. She thought she didn’t like scotch, but I had her try some Laphroaig Quarter Cask last year and she literally exclaimed “I really like that!!” Good thing too, since her husband did not care for it at all. She finished his pour once hers was done.

@OdysseusUnbound good job, you turned her into a Scotch fan and a Laphroaig devotee in one dram.

@cricklewood Yup. Her husband (my best friend) was a tougher sell. He didn’t care for Peated whisky. But we visited a bar in Windsor (their hometown) and I got him hooked with a non-sulphured Macallan 12 Double Cask and a Glendronach 12. So much for the tired trope that Peated whisky is for men and fruity whisky is for women.

@OdysseusUnbound Yes, it should read "peated is for real men, and fruity for girls" to avoid gender associations

@RikS I know a higher proportion of women who are into peated whisky. Very few of the men I know like peated whisky.

@OdysseusUnbound Are you suggesting that I 'm not a REAL man? Or that I'm just very few?
I'd very much like to be the latter. To be in the 1% would be great.

I just got a job offer from Alliance Bernstein to be their new Corporate Actions financial analyst! To celebrate my wife bought me 2 bottles. An Uigeadail and an A'bunadh batch 61.

Not a purchase but a trade for a bottle I have been searching for quite a while. I traded a Springbank 12 Burgundy CS but I have a regular 12 CS open and another in the bunker so I have no regrets.

@Astroke Lucky! If I could get my hands on a bottle of that I could open the one I have with a clear conscience... AP30 is my favourite AP.

@Astroke I haven't had any expressions by AP, but what I really wanted comment on is the bottle. And that is, "That is one impressive looking bottle."

@ajjarrett Well, the 4-5 year bottom shelf AP is pretty much the same bottle with the same screw on cap :)

@Astroke Yup. In a room with a bit of shag carpet both on the floor and the walls. HA!

@Astroke, when you open that bottle of Alberta Premium 30 YO, the whole sleeve/hood can be twisted with the cap. The sleeve will stay intact and can easily be placed back on the battle with the cap inside it.

@ajjarrett shag carpet is so comfy on your feet though lol

A couple of bottles of the SMWS 107.13 “Andalusian Gazpacho”. A 2008 Glenallachie matured in an ex-Oloroso cask for 9 years.
Not many sherry cask matured whisky these days.

Just picked up a bottle of Suntory's Hibiki Harmony as I haven't been able to get my hands on the 12,17, or 21 yo (or at a price that isn't super marked up) and while the Harmony pales in comparison to the others, it'll do (it does work for a lovely Old Fashioned). Biggest reason is I just like the bottle shape/design.

@archivist - Let us know how it is! I was gifted a Hibiki 12 a while back from a golf friend who got it through business and doesn't drink whisky! It was very nice and unusual but I looked recently at getting another and the cheapest I could see it was near £250! I mean, seriously!?
The bottle is being re-used as a blend/vatting container as it is indeed lovely!

Had a guilty late night splurge last night after watching a Ralfy review and ordered Arran James MacTaggart 10th Anniversary Edition (CS).
I'd eyed it up for a while as I do likes me a bit of Arran but wanted to try first (or at least see a positive review). Well, Ralfy raved and scored it 90; I looked on MoM and only two were left with free delivery so I bit - just checked this morning and they've all gone now!
No doubt any remaining bottles will be crazy price pretty soon . . .

@RianC I am jealous of your new Arran 10th anniversary edition. I still haven't found it in the US.

@casualtorture - There are 12000 bottles so hopefully a few find there way over to where you are!

Which bottle? Blanton's Original $70 CDN taxes incl.
Why? I haven't seen many in the past two or three years and today I saw three on the shelf while I was picking up a few beers for the Secretary of War. The long weekend is upon us and my lovely bride needs some respite upon returning to the insanity of the local high school after a five week hiatus. The kids start on Tuesday.
