@paddockjudge I meant to ask, have you opened your bottle of cognac, or are you waiting for an occasion to do so?

@OdysseusUnbound Sorry you missed out. I called the store that had it and they said they could not hold the bottles for me and to try same day pickup but I told them it wasn't working so they held a bottle for me... twice (at different stores).

I think being polite was a big plus. The second store she asked how many I wanted and I said two (to share of course). I was surprised she agreed. But the mood at the store was foul. When she told me she could only give me one I said "no problem". I'm sure if I had complained I may have left the store with no bottles, just like several of the rude customers that might have been candidates for the other bottle...

I will make sure you get a healthy taste of this one... as long as you promise to OPEN the sample bottle...

@ajjarrett, I have not yet opened the Cognac Daniel Bouju.

This Montifaud is a very nice everyday sipper.

@paddockjudge I was going to make my Glendronach 18yo an every day sipper. Then I thought the Glengoyne 21yo. After that I thought, no no it might be 12yo Bunna. After juggling the bottles around (figuratively speaking) I realized I was still not back in my evening dram routine. I know what some of you are thinking,"You sure do buy a lot for not drinking regularly." So true. It's as if I fell off a bridge and into a wagon. I am slowly getting myself off the wagon. I should hold off on buying though...oops too late. But that will be for another post.

@ajjarrett, you are not alone. The wagon is getting a bit full. I too have been buying more than what I am currently consuming You and I are certainly not alone.

This is a pic of a recent purchase. It may take me a while to get through this juice.

For me Books and Bottles...buying more faster than I get through them. That's one impressive group of 'recent purchases'.

@paddockjudge That looks like the Boutique-y Glen Elgin. Nice. I was tempted on the recent KWM sale, but I was in too deep by the time I got to it. I did pick up the Carn Mor Strictly Limited Glen Elgin though.

@Nozinan Oh I plan on opening all samples I have…but time never seems to be on my side. I like the Yellow Spot well enough and I was thrilled that there was some Kilkerran available for same day pickup so I don’t feel that throwing a temper tantrum is necessary at this point (or ever, really).

It appears that my hypocrisy knows no bounds. I was at the LCBO today getting some wine for my wife and some beers for myself, and I spotted two bottles I’ve never seen in Ontario before: Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake, and Edradour 10 Year. Of course, I lost all sense of self-control and purchased both.

@OdysseusUnbound haha makes perfect sense to me!

Be interested to know what you think about both those bottles when you crack them. Both distilleries whose wares I enjoy.

I can imagine Yoda standing next to you in line saying...."You must learn control!" And then after taking your bottles of whisky, as he did with Luke's flashlight, starts hitting your leg, as he started to hit R2, saying, "Mine, mine, mine, mine."

@OdysseusUnbound Great movie. There are probably more quotable lines in that than in The Princess Bride, and that's saying a lot. Although two very different genres haha.

Not purchases, but a couple of additions to the whisky cabinet that were gifts from my older son. The first one was a Christmas present. The second was for my birthday. Both bottles are unopened at this time, but that will probably change in the very near future.

  1. Up North Distillery North Idaho Single Malt Whiskey. 43% ABV. Aged 3 years in American Oak. Single barrel release #6.

  2. Corsair Triple Smoke American Single Malt Whiskey Pot Distilled. 40% ABV. Three individually smoked malts (cherrywood from Wisconsin, beechwood from Germany, and peat from Scotland). Aged in new American charred oak for 1 year. Batch #332. Bottle 107 of 600.

A couple of days ago, I braved the gauntlet of vagaries and passive aggressive guilt-tripping that is the LCBO return/exchange process to pick up a bottle of Tomatin 14 yo Port Casks…for only $5 (thanks to an unopened Xmas gift and a couple of unopened 1/2 bottles of bourbon)!

I had tried this bottling about a year ago as a sample bottle that was part of a Tomatin 12 gift pack. Absolutely loved it, even though my personal experience with Port influenced whisky has been hit and miss.

I just bought a bottle of Booker’s 2021-01E. I’m not sure what the US equivalent to that one is called. It doesn’t really matter; I always enjoy Booker’s.

Glenlivet 12 Illicit Still. Been wanting to try it and recent good reviews of it from people I consider to have an objective palate led me to get one. And it's cheaper than the regular 12!

Some recent acquisitions. I’ve only has small neck pours so far, but I can say unequivocally, they are all excellent, particularly the Fettercairn. I’ve had the Ardmore before and it’s as good as I remember. As you can see, I took a little more out of the neck of that one. And Glen Elgin is my new best friend.

Put a couple of bids in for an older a JW Red and a Black. Kind I forgot about them as the evening went on so missed out on the Red. Black is a litre bottle at 43% from mid to late 80's, at a guess.

@Pudge72, I've learned that the staff at most LCBO outlets are lazy when it comes to returns. They start by claiming they don't take returns, it is company policy. I always counter with, bullshit, people make policy. You should be ashamed of yourself for selling this garbage....where is the manager? I want to file a claim for spoiled goods...etc. I've seen some employees cry. Shame on them for lying to me.
