@paddockjudge if only Legacy had been 20 cents more expensive I could have had it delivered to my local LCBO.
But it worked out ok. Because if the policy I found a cheapish can of “bourbon sour” by Founders and it turnee out quite tasty.

@paddockjudge Correct - so for connoisseurs in small town Ontario (or even in large town Ontario), ordering online makes sense to get stuff you can't get that easily otherwise. But for the vast majority of Ontarians, shopping in-store makes more sense.

@talexander And the thing that enrages enthusiasts like @paddockjudge and myself is that A LOT of the nicer whisky offerings are never available online. You can call and ask for a store to store transfer, but just getting someone at the store to understand what you’re asking for can be a chore. I’ve been told, more than once, “oh, I don’t think we do that”, to which I replied that I’ve requested it and been successful many times (more than I care to admit).

@OdysseusUnbound Yep. As has been established many times - the LCBO is FUCKED.

Saw this on twitter (@cnutsmith). Apparently the guy just walked out in plain sight without paying. no one tried to stop him.
Big conversation around security, etc... but...
DID YOU SEE WHAT HE TOOK?
I can make out the Fiddich 12 and 15 and the livet Founder's. Not sure what the burgundy boxes and unpackaged bottle (any guesses?).
Given what is usually available (and since price clearly wasn't an option), he could have done so much better...

@Nozinan Burgundy boxes look like the French Oak and the bottle could be Forty Creek? Like the old Rodney Dangerfield line, "my father was so stupid, he got fired from the Bank for stealing pens"

@Nozinan ha ha he's obviously only heard of Glenlivet. I reckon the bottle is Bailey's Irish Cream - the colours visible match

@Nozinan Who knows - maybe he's selling to friends, or gifting them. Or that's how he likes to mix his Diet-7Up.

@talexander At least it's not Gingerale...
'cause he didn't steal any AP30!

Not sure if this is the right thread but for those that are wondering what the numbers on the BTAC allocation here is what is circulating on Reddit and that it would begin on January 31st.

@cricklewood Thanks for posting - but I can't believe Stagg Jr is now on allocation! Has the world gone mad?

@talexander hence why this is in the right thread
I think it's probably the arrival of the stock coinciding, or perhaps as a way to ease the disappointment for some folks. Didn't they add some of the regular Wellers last year in a similar fashion?
5 years ago 1Who liked this?
@cricklewood Yes, that's true - and they had surplus I guess, since I saw it on the shelf afterwards. Anyway, as usual I'll be bidding for everything. And I guess this is one thing that the LCBO is NOT fucked up about - I bet there is nowhere else in the world you can (if you're lucky) buy a Pappy 20 for $300....

@talexander do you notice they are raising the prices significantly every year though?

@talexander we have cheaper prices than those in Montgomery County Maryland ($99.99 plus 9% tax BTAC and PVW15; $ 169.99 PVW 20) and a different but overall similar quantity of distribution to Ontario, not that I was able to buy a bottle of any of them this year. I did succeed in getting an ORVW10 and a Thomas H Handy elsewhere this year. I still have a chance at George T. Stagg here, though. I will be camping out and spending all day hanging around a liquor store event 2 km from my house 36 hours from now. I think that they have 80 or 90 bottles of Stagg "raffled" to the first 400 county residents who are likely to turn out. I sampled that 2018 Stagg. It is phenomenal. Here's hoping.

@Nozinan I haven't tracked the pricing but that wouldn't surprise me. In fact, it's pretty much expected...

Take the survey, it's a chance to make a difference!

@paddockjudge Filled it out immediately and even left out expletives.

Well, I decided to ask our friends at the LCBO what happened to the FC 22 Year Rye, there one day and gone the next. Their response:
"Regrettably, this product was not released due to an issue discovered during laboratory testing. While we do not have any additional details that we can provide immediately, the LCBO's Quality Assurance team is continuing to investigate the issue"
Errrr...The Quality Assurance team is now on the 4th bottle and should have completed their investigation by bottle 102 :)

@Astroke The Quality Assurance team has somehow sent those bottles along to the LCBO’s best customers. Weird. Who’da thunk it? Just like the BTAC lottery......

Just out of curiosity, besides the Canadian whisky award judges who had samples. Is there word of anyone who actually laid hands on a bottle of this FC rye?

@OdysseusUnbound ....or the Elmer T Lee Commemorative Edition 93 proof...there it was in the warehouse and poof!...gone!

And today it's a One Day Only Online sale of select whiskies and other spirits! Click "Shop Now" and where does it take you? "0 Matches Found!" Another "successful" promotion from our government monopoly friends.

@talexander, SNAFU, It isn't working for me....I hope it gets fixed today before the ONE DAY ONLY SALE fades away into tomorrow...not a discounted drop to be found, but the Nine Day Pickles recipe is intriguing.
