Distribution of ratings for this:
This is a Straight Bourbon Whisky aged for up to 9 years (apparently). Then port is added to create an interesting little hybrid.
Nose: hugely sweet, banana sugar, candy floss (fairy floss), candy cane, very sugary, a wine note as well from the port, but candied everything. With water no change, maybe slightly less sweet.
Pallet: Incredibly sweet again, candied floral notes, with candy floss, caster sugar, just starts to turn a little dry and some less candied floral notes. With water some spices come in at the end of development there is a little burst of sweet wine.
Finish: Finish is short, slightly dry, red wine dry, nice after so much sweetness, very clean. With water much drier finish, leaves a dry mouthfeel, like a red wine, this contrasts with the sweetness which also lasts longer
Mark neat – 7.5, with water 7.9
It's just too sweet. Even with a touch of astringency there just isn't any contrast to the intense sugary-ness of the drink. It's probably worth a try but i couldnt recommend it.
