@Victor I think the lesson there is, if you like it, get more while you can.

A fresh opened Glenlivet 12 Illicit Still.

My first ever GL and I am, so far, very impressed. It is a quite heavy on the pear drops on the nose, which isn't always my bag, but it's a rich, full note that is interwoven with a whole basket of fresh fruit so it works. Some strong oak influences too, floral and a great mouth-feel. Not felt the need to add water @48% yet either.

Yeah, this is good! Not a style I'd usually go for but I am liking this a lot.

The month of May in Canada. Wiser’s Legacy 2011 release L11198 and GAME 7, Montréal vs Toronto. It has been 42 years since these two polarizing Canadian teams last met in a Stanley Cup play-off series.

@paddockjudge Most of my hockey loving friends are of the "anybody but Toronto" persuasion. I'm kinda neutral on it, but if the leafs manage to blow another series after a big lead...I dunno, something's wrong in Hogtown, AKA the centre of the universe.

@BlueNote - got the lawn mowed yesterday, so I could aerate and thatch today before over-seeding some bare spots this morning. After lunch, took my youngest to our community pool to swim for a few hours (it was 80 degrees Fahrenheit here today). I’m worn out. Time to put the feet up and enjoy a couple of Black Manhattan’s on the patio before dinner.

@Nozinan It's a good thing the Premier made sure there were 500 health care workers in attendance last night: 20 people choking simultaneously is very dangerous. laughing

@BlueNote I find it funny that Maple Leaf fans and the English language hockey media treat Tuhrahnna as though it's THE center of the hockey world. Montreal has more Stanley Cups, and in my not so humble opinion they've had more players of cultural significance: Maurice Richard, Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion, Doug Harvey, Howie Morenz, Jean Béliveau, Guy Lafleur, Yvan Cournoyer, Steve Shutt, Larry Robinson, Ken Dryden, Patrick Roy, etc. Most of the biggest stars in the NHL have said that it's their favourite place to play, even when they're NOT members of Les Glorieux. Ovechkin is on record (and miffed a few in Washington) when he said that Montreal is "the best place in the world to play hockey", or something along those lines.

My team (the pathetic Calgary Flames) didn’t even make the playoffs in the weak Canadian (er...North) Division. Whichever team of the Habs and Jets advances will wish they hadn’t. They’ll be eaten alive.

@paddockjudge I remember a comedian awhile back talking about the differences between Toronto and Montreal hockey. He said something to the effect of “Toronto is great. You guys have a parade every year, even if your team doesn’t make the playoffs.” and then “In Montreal, however, if the team doesn’t win the Cup it’s like (takes a drag of an imaginary cigarette and pretends to butt it out) ‘Shoot ze whole fucking team’.

I’d be shocked if any Canadian team won the Cup this year. Colorado is looking ridiculously good as is Tampa Bay.

I’m not sure I understand all of this foreign language that is hockey, but guess I better take a crash course before Seattle gets their NHL team this fall. Not to worry my Canadian friends, most Seattle sports teams are famous for their abject mediocrity (with the possible exception of the Seahawks and Sounders). joy

Tonight, having a Greenpoint cocktail on the patio before dinner.

  • 2 oz Rittenhouse Rye BiB
  • 1/2 oz Green Chartreuse
  • 1/2 oz Sweet vermouth
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash Orange bitters
  • Garnish: Lemon peel

@OdysseusUnbound, there is one point I must address; your tongue-in-cheek comment about "Tuhrahnna" being treated as the centre of the hockey universe. The Hockey Intelligentsia knows the center of the hockey universe is Sudbury, but only since it was amalgamated with Copper Cliff in 1973.
