I have no idea where the said Lot 40 is concerned. It’s quite popular in my area, so the bottles don’t get a chance to gather dust. I didn’t buy the Pike Creek 21 Year Old Speyside Cask from the Northern Border Rare Releases. I have yet to see a review from anyone I trust suggesting this one is worth the $90 price tag.

@gfc, I'd be all over that $35 Lot No 40 (2012 edition).
@OdysseusUnbound, the Pike Creek 21 YO is a solid buy IF YOU ENJOY MELLOW with a hint of rye, subtle oak and without a typical whisky slap-in-the-face greeting. Did I mention that it is MELLOW?

I recently had the opportunity to add 2 Lot 40 CS to my collection. It was a very generous offer but I declined because there is no way I could keep to my goals for the year. I am committed to picking up any BTAC I can get, an A'Bunadh 60 if I can find it, and at least 2 bottles of the Lot 40 CS second edition if I'm lucky enough.
That's 4-5 bottles before anything else catches my eye this year. So far I plan to open an A'Bunadh 49 and Glenborrodale, so I need to be very selective in my purchases.

Resisted the temptation to buy Ardbeg 10 in the distillery shaped tin. Why? I've got 3 Ardbeg 10s in the bunker and one open already. I thought the tin would be neat to have, but I'm supposed to be on a mission to buy a lot less this year an only interesting and unique offerings that I don't already have in abundance. I'm proud of myself.

@BlueNote I've also been fondling that Ardbeg 10 tin. However I'm leaning more towards the An oa right now. Sure do need a ten though.......

@Alexsweden I had the An Oh at a tasting last November. I think the 10 is better. I might still cave for the Ten in the Tin in a weak moment.
Cheers

Had it at a tasting two weeks ago! I liked it but it was a big difference to the ten. I want both in my cabinet!!

@MadSingleMalt You're right. I'm powerless to resist.
@Alexsweden Why didn't I think of that: when in doubt buy both.

@BlueNote @Alexsweden Ah, you guys are the marketers dream. The cheapest price for Ardbeg 10 just now here is $84 NZD and with the distillery tin $91 NZD. I just don't know what I'd do with the tin. I suppose if you had a decent man cave........

@Hewie Same price with or without the tin here. What can a guy do?

Same price here as well! It's a real bargain come to think about it...

@Alexsweden @Hewie As long as they're practically giving them away, we should get 2 each. One to drink and one to make a bundle of dough on in a couple of years by which time they'll be worth a fortune at auction.

FYI for Ontario Canada: The BTAC lottery entry has started, best of luck. The site is vintagesshoponline.com

@fiddich1980 SHHHHHHHHHH, don't tell !!! I've got my heart set on a Pappy 15 or a William Larue Weller....or both if the whiskey gods are kind.

Laphroaig cairdeas 2017, because I foolishly forgot it went on presale online this morning at the SAQ and now is sold out.
I wasn't super excited about this one but had planned on picking it up in order for completion purposes. Also it's one of the rare special edition that hadn't bumped up prices in almost 4 years.

@Robert99 probably shouldn't complain, I've bought quite a bit of bottles lately. Besides we gotta save up for Lot 40CS! It's part of next week's new releases, it seems someone's finally doing their homework at the SAQ, I'm hoping we get a crack at Wiser's 35 as well.

@cricklewood Is that the Wiser's 35 CS? or last year's 50% version?
I'm trying hard not to commit to anymore purchases for now but I have to say the 2018 NBC releases are definitely on my DRADIS

@cricklewood I am in the same position but I guest you already know that.

@Nozinan, I meant the 2017 edition of Wiser's 35, there are rumours we might get some at the SAQ soon.

Not buying any BTAC whiskeys from my county's stores this cycle. My lottery number didn't win a bottle. Interestingly these were the numbers and proportions released:
Stagg/Handy/Weller/Saz18/EagleRare17 = 90/45/30/6/3 bottles.
The 45% ABV ones are the rarest ones these days.

I also struck out with the Sazerac/BTAC lottery. Womp womp.

I wonder how many LCBO “friends and family” end up with a strange bit of “good luck” when it comes to these draws...We’ll never know since there is no published list of “winners”. Oh well, it’s not like there’s rampant corruption in a government organization, amirite? Maybe I’ll pick up a consolation bottle of Redbreast 12, while it’s still on sale.

No BTAC/PVW for me this year. Another lottery at the end of Feb. For the EH Taylor/Weller 12/OWA 107. No EH Taylor Rye though, so much for the LCBO buying power. I think I will just order more SM Scotch from Alberta, cheaper and better.

The 2018 resolutions thread has shown that many of us are wishing to cut back on purchases. I have seen these type of threads elsewhere and thought it may be an appropriate time to start one here.
To start things off, I passed on a 2012 Lot 40 for $35 US. I have never tried it and have never seen it under $60. However, my whisky budget is getting low, and more importantly I was afraid it may have been light struck. It was dusty and must have been on the shelf for a number of years. It was in a location where it would have received at least some direct sunlight. I may go back for it someday, any thoughts on the bottle still being good?
