Just finished off a lovely bottle of Lagavulin 16 yr...Liked it so much I had to crack open my other bottle...Like it so much that I ordered a few more bottles (Rye Brook Wines has it for $58)...Did I mention that I like Lagavulin 16 yr?

@systemdown I share your pain. I don't think that I have finished a bottle in more than a year. I have so many bottles on the go, and I hate to think that I'm finishing a bottle at the expense of the other ones that I own. Inevitably I'll have to post about the twelve bottles I just finished...

Last sip of Longrow CV. What a sweet, smoky malt.
I remembered that I like it, but I had forgotten how much and exactly why. Nice texture, great legs. oily. The smoke is right on the mark. Perfect. Nice finish too.

Hey, FMichael--I just finished a bottle of Lagavulin 16 last night, too! I'd been nursing it along for awhile, not wanting it to be gone. I would like to replace it with a Lagavulin 12.

@cjkocher ya - know - I get the feeling many here have polished off a bottle of Lagavulin 16 yr - such a nice whisky!
I too would like to try the elusive Lagavulin 12 - just that nobody near me sells it - however at "wine seacher . com" there's a few online retailers that sell it for $68.
I picked up a Ardbeg 10 yr the other day; when I get home in a few hours I'll compare/contrast the Lagavulin 16, and Ardbeg 10 while I watch "Boardwalk Empire".

Saturday I finished a bottle of Clan Denny's Girvan 46 year old single grain scotch whisky. Honesty compells me to say it wasn't my bottle, but one of the tasting bottles of my local retailer. But I felt kind of honoured that he let me taste it in the first place and even finishing it. First time I drank single grain scotch whisky and whisky older than 21 years. That was something else.... and high on the most wanted list from now on.

Just finished my Bunnahabhain 18 and my Bowmore 18 cask strength from TWE whisky show last year. Farewell my dear friends, until we meet again...........

Just finished a bottle of Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. Quite nice, easy to drink, not a dram to think and ponder on. Just enjoy, no thinking required.

@Fons As my wife said "46 yr old that's got to be an expensive scotch" Hope it was everything you expected.

@Lars @Fons Actually well aged grain whiskies can be quite cheap (relatively speaking of course). Seems some of them only hit their straps at 40+ years of age. If you look on The Whisky Exchange you'll find 45 year old single grain whiskies for around 100 pounds.

I finished the 1 litre bot. of Talisker 57* and am a little sad; it was a splendid 'drop'! Fortunately I was able to squirrel away a 200ml. bot. That's what I like about the litres, 800ml. to drink 200ml. to save: I'm told some of the European Duty Frees are stocking 1.25litre bottles - Now, that's a sensible size!

@systemdown @Lars Indeed, the price was actually quite reasonable at 170 EUR . Sadly he didn't have a bottle left, I would've snagged it without a moment of hesitation.
Single grain whiskies of that age seem to cost a lot less than single malts of the same age. Of course corn is a cheaper grain than barley, but I assume that those distilleries make their biggest revenue from supplying blends and that their single grain bottlings don't serve as their cash cows? Don't know what about all those closed grain distilleries though. Anyone got a solid explanation for this?
It tasted great and reminded me (not surprisingly) of bourbon. A sweet nose and it got even sweeter the longer it was in my glass until it became the sweetest nose I've ever smelled. Notes of sweet corn and vanilla (obviously) and fading on oak and even some coconut with an everlasting (well, almost) finish. Maybe not that complex (to my untrained senses at least), but what a lovely and easy drinkable whisky. I didn't know what to expect, but nothing as good as this to be honest.
Now if I get my hands on a visa card, I can pay the whisky exchange site a visit.

@Fons That bottle sounds nothing but lovely my friend. Made me drool, just a wee bit, hearing about it! I should start looking into some single grain whiskies as I've sadly never tried one!

Just finished my bottle of Glenlivet 12 yr old. Nothing bad, but nothing spectacular. In the same league as Glenfiddich 12. Now it's nothing, but up on both those expressions.

@Victor I know the feeling on trying to finish bottles that you and Systemdown are talking about. I've pretty much decided that on a few of my less favorite whiskies that I'll have a few at a time whenever I decide to crack open a bottle, no more then 3, until that bottle is finished so that I can start to look at some new bottles. Sadly though at times it's like seeing an old friend off into the Great Beyond though.

@SquidgyAsh You should Squidgy, you really should. These fine single grain gems tend to get overlooked by al those single malts. (I plead guilty myself). Don't deny yourself the pleasure.

We just finished the last of our Johnnie Walker Blue Label, King George V edition. My wife and I bought it on our honeymoon three years ago.
A very fine dram indeed: it's balanced without being overly smooth or overly aggressive. It hits you in waves: sweetness, smokiness, peatiness.
That having been said, I don't think we're likely to buy another bottle, knowing that I could buy 5 great bottles of single malt for the price of this one bottle. But it's been a faithful companion throughout many of the celebrations we've had since we bought it.
We're going to reuse the crystal bottle it came in, somehow. Maybe fill it with moonshine or something.

Just finishing the first bottle of whisky my wife bought me: Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. The whisky that she fell in love with. Mind you I still have 2 more bottles of it, but it still feels like I'm saying good bye to a bitter mistreated old friend. Hopefully his brothers will be treated much better and experience much better things in life.

The Last bottle for me was my first Kilchoman Machir Bay. Was an awesome new Islay. I strongly recomend this Scotch. Will do a review later.

My brother-in-law became a fan of scotch whisky over this past weekend (my youngest son was baptised - had all sorts of family/friends over)...
We finished off the Balvenie 17 yr Peated Cask (my brother-in-law's favorite), a Talisker 10 yr, a Glenkinchie 12 yr, and a Longmorn 16 yr (my uncle's/God father's favorite - he's a scotch man but has never tried the Longmorn 16 yr)...Mind you these bottles were already opened, and were roughly half full...
Either way - we did some damage to my collection - lol.

Bruichladdich 9 Year Old by Liquid Sun (a Port Charlotte in disguise). Wonderful dram!

I finished my bottle of Great Kings Street: the Artist's Blend tonight. I've been taking drams from it all week, slowly ticking away the moments. A solid dram to the very end. We've been talking about getting another one and that probably won't take very long as it's on sale at my local.
