Tonight I am saying goodbye to two old friends, my second bottle of Wild Turkey 101 Rye, and my first bottle of Old Overholt Rye released in 2008. The 2008 release of Old Overholt Rye was a real ball of fire. Hopefully Beam will one day soon bring it back to that level of intensity.

@Victor - we need a moment of silence for Victor's friends.....

With that taken care of - 2 more bottles from my collection have begun a new journey in the recycling bin; the 12 yr Aberlour Non-Chill filtered, and Aberlour A'bunadh batch #39 were better than expected (especially the 12 yr Non-Chill filtered - wonderful dram)!

Oban 14 is the most recent loss to my collection. Not sure if i will buy it again, had it for about 9 months and it lost complexity during that time. not a bad dram though

@Volks I too finished off a bottle of Oban 14 yr just last night...Nice dram...I'm thinking I might be a bit more partial to the Clynelish 14 yr that I was also having last evening.

@Volks Clynelish is very similar; maybe slightly more "flavourful"...Both are very nice nonetheless.

Another bottle made it's way into the recycling bin last night...Glenmorangie Astar; a decent dram - a bit too heavy on the alcohol IMO - needs some H2O to open up.

Ummm - I better start by saying that I'm not guzzling down bottle after bottle (I've been finishing many bottles these past few weeks that have been open for 4 plus months)...

Last night I tossed the empty Dalmore 12 yr bottle into the recycling bin...Not a bad sherried single malt, but I must say I do enjoy the Aberlour range more.

We finished off our Loch & K(e)y bottling of Bernheim Wheat Whiskey tonight. I had the last dram while starting to read Jim Murray's Whisky Bible for 2012. Another bottle should be purchased soon.

The HP 12 bottle that ended up in my cabinet after it was given to me by my good friend Chris, when he moved several months ago. He had originally bought the bottle last year in an attempt to get into whisky himself. While the attempt was not ultimately successful, he always poured a dram for me whenever my wife and I went over to his house. I made sure to hold off on finishing the bottle until he had one last drink from it when he visited last month.

Now down to 31 open bottles (trying to get, and stay, under 30 open bottles at any given time...good luck with that, Pudge!)

Finished two bottles while on holiday, bought so that I could switch to whisky after I was tired of wine (I love wine, but after a certain point in the night, I go looking for the more robust flavours of a whisky). One was a Monkey Shoulder blended whisky that I picked up because it was cheap and I'd never seen it for sale before...it's about an 80 in my books, light and not too challenging with a decent nose. The second was a Talisker 10...

Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon Good enough "To flip em the bird" :). I think that was the catch phrase in their new commercials. BTW: It was in reference to others not the WT distillery.

W/T 101 rye and it was very good, pehhaps not quite as special as its' predecessor, but very drinkable just the same. Some of these W/T's can have amazing depth, but any I've had have been very good but there is some batch variation.

Just finished my bottle of Ardbeg 10. I will be off to the store tomorrow for another bottle. I know many will disagree, but this is my favorite Ardbeg expression.

The last bottle I finished was actually also my first (just starting to enjoy whisky) and it was a Yamazaki 10 years old. Really liked it a lot.

@glennds I suppose finishing your first bottle is a milestone. Congrats! I just finished a bottle of Talisker 10. Thank God I already have a replacement sitting on my shelf.

@Mantisking Thanks, I was very happy with the choice myself. I'm very curious how the 12 years and 18 years old are going to taste. Hope to pick them up soon.

@glennds Just took a look @ your cabinet great selection you have. Let us know how you liked the HP12, Ardbeg 10, Caol Ila 12. Many members of this sight also have those in their cabinet. :)

@PMessinger Well, I've got to say that even though I really liked the Yamazaki, I enjoyed the Highland Park even more. It's just got something more than the Yamazaki. As for the Ardbeg and Coal Ila: the peat flavour is something I hadn't tasted before, but it's something that I could get used to. I prefer the Coal Ila to the Ardbeg, it's just a little more my taste.

@glennds Gland you liked the HP12. You have touched on a great conversation that has often been brought up in my house hold, my wife likes the HP15 better than the 12, I like the 12 better than the 15. Her favorite is the Caol ila 12. :)
