@RikS, the obvious answer is "get both". They are for very different moods. For power go to 57 North. For beauty and contemplation, drink Talisker 18. Those two are my two Talisker standards. With those two on hand I would not feel the need to have any other Taliskers. I would not like to be without either one of them.

The Laddie Ten 2nd Edition. One large pour this afternoon to drain it and it tasted as good as it ever did. A great whisky imo - sad to see it go.

@RianC Seems like the Laddies keep their flavour from start to finish...maybe even improve...
I just opened my Laddie 10 1st edition. I think I preferred the Laddie classic, but I also remember not being impressed with it when I first opened it. I epect to taste from it over the next couple of years.

Knocked off a 12 year old Balvenie Doublewood just before bed last night with some friends who came to visit. Not my favourite dram, but I slept well.

I recently polished off a Talisker 10 after passing it around the kitchen table with the love of my life, my former brother-in-law who looks like a longshoreman, this cute little blonde hoola-hooper we recently met, and a magician—as we geared up to see a free Justin Townes Earle concert.
I'm willing to bet that was the first time in the history of the world that that happened.

@MadSingleMalt Good one. Not familiar with Justin Townes Earle, but I’m guessing his parents were Townes Van Zant, Steve Earle and ...Justin Timberlake fans?

@BlueNote, you're so close! His parent was Steve Earle.

@BlueNote what happens in Nashville, stays in Nashville.

@cricklewood Oh yeah. Nashville's on my bucket list. @MadSingleMalt Is that where that debauchery took place?

@BlueNote, if you mean the debauchery of his conception, then I don't know. :) But the recent free show was here in Madison.
If you really want to check him out, I'd start with "Harlem River Blues." It's easily his best song.

Pappy Van Winkle 15 yo, 53.5% ABV, from 2010, the last full release year of the Pappy made from the Stitzel-Weller distillery distillate. Toasting @Benancio's birthday was the last pour from this bottle. I don't drink Pappy Van Winkle every day, but it would sure be fun to do so.
Prohibitive cost and extreme scarcity mean that those of us who have bottles of this juice know that we may not be able to replace them once they are consumed.

Stopped in at my local.... ended up having the last of a Blanton’s and some Jefferson’s Reserve. Tried something else... can’t remember what it was, I guess that’s why it was hidden in an obscure corner.

Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015, finished the remaining 150 ml by filling a pair of two ounce minis and then sipping a wee dram. This is better than ever after being open for approximately 35 months.

Last night I finished my Ardbeg Uigeadail. Good thing too, because the cork broke. Both my best friend and his wife loved it too! It seems he has developed a taste for peat/smoke.

@OdysseusUnbound Oh my! How will you replace it? It's so expensive here!
6 years ago 1Who liked this?
@Nozinan I’m hoping a friendly doctor can write me a prescription for a new one.

@OdysseusUnbound That likely won't happen after the study released this week:
Now personally, I can't find the article in the Lancet. I may need to go through my university's web portal. But any involvement a doctor will have in the consumption or procurement of alcoholic beverage will likely be limited to outside of the professional realm.

@Nozinan Fake News. Or they forgot a comma: e.g. “no, alcohol consumption is safe.”

@OdysseusUnbound, @Nozinan, some students of cycles posit a 100 year cycle. Looks like we are right on time for another go at Prohibition of alcoholic beverages. This time let's have it somewhere else than in the USA, please. We tried that once before.

@Victor If Canada decides to prohibit the production, importation and sale of alcohol, a number of us will be well-positioned to ride it out, but you can probably expect an increase in the number of visits to your home...

My 1792 SB bourbon. A very decent bourbon but I think there are ones more suited to my tastes at a lower price (in the UK) so doubt I'll re-buy anytime soon. An Evan Williams BiB awaits which is nice as i loved my last bottle of that stuff . . .

@RianC I put an end to my bottle of Benromach 10 yesterday.
In the next few days/weeks I would like to bid adieu to 2 heels of Bowmore Laimrig. I have 2 differnet batches open. And when my palate is Just Right I'll do a review of the Laddie 10 and the Laddie Classic using the last 30 cc of the classic that I will ever taste...

An Ardbeg Oogie unexpectedly bit the dust on Friday with some new friends who were surprise peat lovers. The high ABV made it my dram of choice as we "pre-gamed" for a free street concert here in Madison. It's good stuff, but I won't replace it at local prices ($90ish). At California mail-order prices ($60ish), maybe. And besides, Corryvreckan is better! :)
And then tonight, I killed my PC7, my longest-held bottle, dating back to around 2012. Great whisky, but even if it were still available at its original price of $100, I wouldn't buy it again when Laphroaig 10 CS can be had for half that.

The last few drams of Glenfarclas 12, Green Label and Ardmore 8 (IB from Douglas Laing) were all vatted, and I have also taken Writer's Tears and Ardmore Legacy down to the last quarters in an attempt to clear out some near empty bottles and blend up (hopefully) a few of them. Thinking about it there could be quite a few whisk(e)ys in that blend.
My sample (of all the above mixed together) tasted pretty good actually. The Ardmore(s) does seem to give blends that little hint of sweet smoke which is quite subtle if you don't overcook it.

Lagavulin 8 48% - Opened November 17 2016, decanted May 20, 2017 and finally finished tonight. I needed something that could stand up to the Uigeadail I shared with my brother and uncle earlier. Still as good as it was upon opening. Hoping it will make my last bit of charting tolerable.

Balbair something-or-other. 2003 maybe.
I didn't like it. I brought the bottle to a BYOB hippie wedding, and I was TOTALLY happy to leave it behind there at the end of the night - and even happier to see that people had been drinking it (with Coke, I think).

@MadSingleMalt - I'm curious about Balblair. It seems to get high marks from reviewers and I was planning to get what ever year is the 10 but have recently read some less than promising reviews. What was it about it you disliked?
