@RikS I don't know... I have 2 children. I don't feel the need to love one more than the other...

@MadSingleMalt

@nooch, I'd call the Oogie rounder and softer. I find the Corry to be fresher, more brash, more intense.

Is this code for “younger”. open_mouth

@Nozinan All in good time. I think Clynelish 14 is next on the “to open” list...

@OdysseusUnbound, a choice between Clynelish 14 and Ardbeg Corryvreckan? That's sort of like a choice between Bud Light and 151 proof Rum (in a more minor way).

@OdysseusUnbound, well, they're both exactly the same age: 3 years.

@Victor I hope Clynelish is better than Bud Light!

I just finished my Laphroaig Triple Wood. I may have to replace this one. I very much enjoyed it.

Poured the last dram of my decanted Longrow Burgundy wood. This was good from start to finish, and, unusual for a CS, I preferred it neat.

Glad I have a spare.

I've now managed to pare down my open cabinet by 6 bottles from Jan 1, and that's with adding 9 this year. No doubt I will add 1-2 to make room for this year's purchases, but with luck I am on my way to a more manageable size.

I finished the last of my Cairdeas Madeira Cask with a good friend last night. Whisky tastes so much better when it is shared and there’s good conversation.

Finished off a Jim Beam Bottled in Bond. Been working my way through a number of BiB offerings at the LCBO with pretty good success. My recent taste seems to be cask strength scotch or high proof/high rye bourbons. Maybe I have been blowing out my palate.

We went to the in-laws’ for dinner. I finished the Glenfarclas 12 that I was keeping there. Replaced it with a bottle of Jack Daniel’s Old No.7

I need to make room for the 3 new bottles that are coming home soon.

@OdysseusUnbound I may have missed something. What are the three new bottles?

6 years ago 0

@OdysseusUnbound

@nooch I don’t have them in my possession yet, so I don’t want to jinx it. They are all Canadian. Two are the same. One I’m getting because of an unsurprising but beneficial error by the LCBO. A fourth is Scottish and in the possession of a good doctor in Toronto.

@OdysseusUnbound So you have more than one doctor acting as an agent for you?

I would very much like to meet him or her...to learn how to be a Good Doctor too

@Nozinan I only know one doctor, good sir. Heck, I don’t even have a doctor. My wife and kids do, but I don’t. So I’ve got four whiskies waiting for me out in the wild. I really need to drink up, because I’m headed to Edmonton in a week and a half. I’m really hoping to find a Lanny McDonald Edition Wiser’s among other things...

@OdysseusUnbound , I find myself in a similar situation, the only one without a family doctor after mine suddenly retired, I have had no luck since.

I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding the McDonald Wiser's whisky while there, you might even find some Wiser's Legacy (there was plenty in Calgary).

I don't know if the good doctor has given you the tip of using the Liquor Connect (www.liquorconnect.com/Pages/default.aspx) site to look for which stores last received shipments of certain products, you can then call the stores with the SKU# and they will check if they have it in stock. That way you can find a store near your hotel or whatever.

I've finished off a number of bottles lately as I have so many new ones that I'd like to try. Amongst the kicked are: Ardmore Legacy (will not buy again), Amrut Single (excellent liquid), Speyburn Bradan Orach (yuck), and my Hibiki Japanese Harmony (will definitely buy again). I opened the Glenfiddich Fire&Cane and tonight will open the Hellyer's Road.

@jsilevinac What's the verdict on the Fire and Cane? It's coming up for sale here next week and looks interesting. I might be tempted if the reviews are decent.

A friend and I knocked off the last of my Springbank 15 on the weekend. I think I like the 10 better. Replacing it with a Glenfarclas 15 which is cheaper and always reliable.

@jsilevinac, I second a request for your impressions of the fire & cane. I've read mixed reviews, on the one hand I am curious to try a peated Glenfiddich since previous editions have been travel retail or distillery only, on the other I am a little ambivalent about where this series is heading.

@BlueNote, I've seen nothing but positive reviews of Fire & Cane.

@BlueNote @cricklewood - It’s actually pretty good. I could use more of the rum cask influence but it’s nicely balanced and worth the $45 I paid for it

Recently finished a bottle of glenlivet 18, which was out for guests during my 40th birthday shindig. I’ll post a pic soon to outline the generosity of some of my guests towards contributing to my scotch collection and a few gifts I gave to myself!

Just sipping the last of my Wiser’s Wendel Clark. It opened up nicely, and despite the low ABV (41.6%) it’s actually pretty good with a few drops of water.
