Just sipping on mu first wee dram of the Ben 10 100 while I cook dinner. Man, why did no one tell me to buy this sooner. Ok, Ok, you did. Very good first impressions. Has anyone seen the first of the cask strength releases which replace the 10 100 yet? How do they compare in price?

@Hewie - I Think they're priced around £60 over here but not heard any reports yet, sorry.
Man, I regret not getting at least one more bottle of the 10/100 now! I may have to snag some more 15 though , you know, just in case . . .

@Nozinan If you are going, my sister will pick it up and hold it until you arrive.

@RianC the Benromach 10/100 is still available online if you look around a bit.

Although for how much longer I'm not sure it seems to be selling out quite quickly (sorry to add to your FORO!).
I've not stashed a bottle and will hold out for the cask strength and hope its decent.

Just picked up two backup bottles. The FORO is strong. With the help of @Nozinan I got an Ardbeg Uigeadail and a Springbank 15. I now have two of each...but the FORO isn’t totally tamed...

@Wierdo I have 2 bottles of the Ben 100/10, but just like the Amrut Portonova and IS, I wanted to open a bottle but also have some left over. So if I get one more on my trip it will allow me the luxury of an earlier taste... And the price is right in NS

@OdysseusUnbound The FORO will only be tamed when the celebrants at your celebration of life are celebrating with the contents of your cabinet.

Just left the latest Belle Meade special release! Unfortunately neither of these are mine. It was 2 per person and my 2 friends wanted one and live out of state, so I picked these up for them. 1 barrel, just over 100 proof, finished in a Mourvedre wine cask, which I just learned how to pronounce today. I can't wait to try a glass!

@BlueNote Your comment reminds me of something I posted on my FB page.

@OdysseusUnbound looks like Tim Finnegan after someone splashed some whiskey on him at his wake! ...except that Tim was smiling.
Alternately one could flambee one's whisk(e)y collection, as a sort of whisky funeral pyre, going out in a blaze of glory, as it were.

@Victor Would it have to be Highland Park? You know, to make it a true Viking Funeral? Then you could take the ashes, use them to filter the next batch of NAS whisky and release it as a special edition...Viking Pyre

@OdysseusUnbound, that is the ultimate juxtaposition, the Undertaker in a coffin...and if that isn't the Undertaker, well, let's pretend it is.

@paddockjudge That’s definitely the Undertaker, my second or third favourite WWF/WWE superstar of all time.

@OdysseusUnbound Interesting you mention this.
@OdysseusUnbound
The guy who gifted me the bottles that are at the core of my collection, the guy who sparked my interest though the seed did not bear fruit until years after he died, left what the home care people estimated was a $250 000 whisky collection (in 2009, I believe). I don't know how accurate that was, but he had 8 bottles of Black Bowmore 30 YO (1996 bottling) and many bottles of Macallan 25, including Anniversary bottlings, and things I don't even remember because at the time it meant nothing to me.
He had no children. His sister was to distribute his collection to family and I shudder at the thought that they would have invited @Talexander over to open them and mix them with Gingerale...

@Nozinan Well, I plan on drinking down my collection well before I'm put into the dirt. In fact, I'm really trying my darndest not to buy anything else (except the Glenfarclas 15 which is already on the way) until the next Corby/Wiser's/NBC Rare Release Lot 40 comes out in the fall. I'll be bringing whisky to share to all family gatherings this summer in the hopes of ending the year with fewer bottles than I started with. So far, it seems unlikely, but I've got to try...

@Victor I wish I could "like" your comment on the whisky funeral pyre more than once !
To hell with the friends who think they will inherit the whisky collection LOL

Just bought:
Amrut Maderia Finish Cask Finish, why? I love the Portonova & Intermediate Sherry. I had to try a variation on the flavoured cask by this distillery.
GlenAllachie CS 10 YO, why? I have had the opportunity to try the core line up (10CS , 12 & 18) twice and I have really enjoyed what they have in the glass. In the glass, cause what's on the outside, is a bit gaudy.

@Frost Amrut Madeira cask?
It’s so early in the day and you’ve elicited a major FOMO event!
5 years ago 1Who liked this?
@Nozinan yes, 50% ABV and finished in 40 YO Madeira casks. The first Indian whisky to do so apparently.

@Frost I continue to be immensely impressed with the Amrut distillery...

I was picking up a summer gose and saw this for $15 and couldn't resist. They had me at non-chill filtered. This is definately the best $15 whiskey I've ever had, not that there are many left in that price range. Better than Evan Williams BiB. I would even put it up there with OGD BiB and it's $5 cheaper. Review to come at some point.

I just ordered two Society bottles;
Cask No. 128.7 “Down the old fruit mines”, a 5 year old (March 2013) from Penderyn aged in a First-fill barrique cask, shaved/toasted/re-charred. Why? Because I’ve owned a Distillery bottling previously and liked it, but haven’t seen one from the Society before. I’m anxious to try a single cask, cask strength version from Penderyn. Official tasting notes; Nose: intensity of Armagnac, caramelised brown sugar, antique furniture, molasses, jerk chicken rub, wood spice, exotic flowers and fudge. Palate; dense chocolatey note, stewed raisins, chopped dates, old vanilla essence, unlit cigars, more dark fruits and soft spices - a dense fruit and nut loaf. 61.1% ABV.
My wife asked me to order something for her to give me as my Father’s Day gift.
Cask No. 51.15 “Boiled sweets and cut flowers”, a 16 year old (May 2002) from Bushmills, aged in a First-fill Barrel. Why? Again, because I haven’t seen a Bushmills offered by the Society before. I like the official bottling of Bushmills 16 year old single malt and would like to try a single cask, cask strength version. Official tasting notes; Nose: It’s sweet, floral and fruity. Roses, pear drops, milk chocolate and then rhubarb and apple sauce. Then porridge, vanilla custard and sweet pastries with hints of waxiness and oak. Palate: Initially, searing heat and sweetness. Strawberry sherbet sweets, liquorice, and ginger spice give way to gentler cereal notes and old wood. 56.4% ABV.

@casualtorture - Looks good and fits with my current Boardwalk Empire binging! What's the abv?
5 years ago 1Who liked this?
Not exactly purchases but an upcoming Father's day gift and another present (of sorts).
Pikesville Rye - been after this for ages and am excited to try this one. Seems to get rave reviews across the board as well.
Wild Turkey Rare Breed - I love WT101 and have wanted a bottle of this for a while as well. Available for under £50 on Amazon due to the FD sales, which is a great UK price. I have tried this before, but at the end of a long festival day of mainly malt whisky drinking, and thought it seemed like a more powerful version of the 101. Hard to really see any nuances by that point . . .
