@Nozinan ha ha sorry I cracked it open pretty much as soon as I got it. But I'd be very keen to compare notes with you - sounds like fun

@Nozinan Very rare in Canada that we can even get this little beauty. It's as rare as Laphroaig 10 CS, at least here in BC.

And today my Longrow Red arrived. I've been waiting for the shipment to make it to NZ since it was initially released at the start of the year. So fortunate to be able to get my hands on one of these at a fair price

I didn’t really “buy” it, but I received a bottle of Foursquare Détente 10 Year Single Blended Rum (48% abv) today. Bully for me.

@OdysseusUnbound I ordered that the other week. Order went through too. Then the KGBO reversed it.... so I am without. I’ll have to make do with Smith and Cross...

Not recently purchased but recently arrived bottle of rum.

Valinch & Mallet Saint-Catherine 2007 Jamaican rum, it's confirmed as being from Worthy Park distillery by the bottler, worthy park have recently switched policies to prevent IB's from using the distillery name. As the SAQ doesn't get very much in the way of Jamaican rums (I believe the paranoid Ethyl Carbamate policies to be the reason) or any good rum lately. I decided to spring for this.

11 years in Jamaica, 1 year in Scotland, It's from the WPH marque so 240-360gr/hL ester levels so the second heaviest rum they make at Worthy Park.

@cricklewood That’s some heavy duty shit. I’m going to have to see if I can find me some of that.

I think I’m going to have to have a closer look at rum. I never got much beyond Bacardi Amber and Coke before I went full on into whisky.

It's from KWM my friends there's two different casks a 13yr WP and this one. According to Davide from Valinch & Mallet they're both from the same marque and were mostly aged in Jamaica. When prodded he said the 13yr old is a little bit grungier, the 12 a bit more elegant.

I'll gladly share some with y'all, should be cracking it sooner than later.

@cricklewood I took a look at the Rum selection at KWM and never realized what a fantastic selection they have. A little pricey (Cadenhead 25 year Caroni) but impressive. Of course a Tiki bar on the beach has a better Rum selection than the LCBO.

My latest auction purchases. 90s, 80s, 70s (x2)from l to r.

I'll be opening the 80s bottle on Xmas day, if not before. The thought of trying this and the Black together is quite exciting ... Yip, I'm that sad smile

Love the Italian on the tax stamp of the J&B 'ACQVAVITE DI CEREALI' What a lovely way to say 'whisky'!

@RianC Love seeing the different JW reds, look forward to your reports.

And Aquavitae di cereali is proper and hilarious, it seems the Italians we're well stuck in to single malts and Scotch well ahead of the rest, I know many rare and interesting bottles tend to be Italian imports.

@cricklewood - Samaroli in particular, but yeah totally agree - they knew good stuff when they saw it!

I'll be focusing on JWBs from now on but will still be keeping an eye out for any Italian imports. It's a fair bet that the quality was that bit better and they seem to appear at every auction so they don't break the bank either.

I need a 'The Thing' marathon to enjoy that J&B with ha ha! And time to grow an epic beard of course laughing

I've already posted that I finally managed to grab a bottle of the latest Longrow Red (13 Chilean Cab Sav) and Springbank 12 CS (Batch 20) now that they eventually made it to this side of the world. Today I completed my trifecta with the Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 3. It's tough when you're on holiday and at home during the day when the courier calls - an initial taste test was immediately required laughing

@ajjarrett I wish I could take credit for the photo but these are not my purchases... I will be getting a few that I ordered yesterday from KWM and my wife will bring them home from Calgary. I will try to make a nice picture then.

@Nosebleed used to send me photos when he picked up bottles for me...

I had a gift visa and the timing was right so I ordered 2 bottles of Milk and Honey Classic (one will go to a friend of mine), a bottle of what appears to be the last underaged spirit from the distillery (called "The last"), and a bottle of the Single Malts of Scotland CS8 YO Caol Ila people were gushing about on this site.

@RianC, I had a sip of Red Label tonight at mom's house. It was opened before 1995, fill at about half. Easy entry, oily, lots of biscuit and cereal notes, verrry enjoyable.

@paddockjudge - nice! I am so impressed with the 80s red (opened on Sat, couldn't wait ha!). Yes, lots of sticky, sweet biscuity grain and barley notes as well as that oilyness you mention and with a really sharp nip of peat.

Less complex than the older black label but tonnes of flavour for what it is. I found a literal drop of water really helped smooth out a slight bitterness on the finish and help integrate the grain notes.

What time is it? I believe it's Johnny Walker time again for this kid ... smile

About 5 years ago @Nosebleed and I came across an almost full bottle of JW Red in our father in law's home. He had probably received the bottle in the early 80s. We went and bought a 50 cc mini from a liquor store and did a blind H2H. They were 2 completely different blends. While not among my top drams, the older red was drinkable. The new one was disgusting.

Back in the days before he jumped the shark, Ralfy did a video review where he compared the 2. That's where I got the idea. It was a good exercise...
