An ex-teammate was very generous to give me a bottle of the Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique Cask Strength from Taiwan (cheers to their generosity and thoughtfulness).

Decided to return the unopened Kavalan Solist Concertmaster (cheers to the LCBO return policy) and decided to use the credit against a Talisker 25 (seemed to be a reasonable price compared to the other 25's).

Then based on Connosr enthusiasm, picked up their last remaining bottle of Bookers 2015-01

A very successful sequence of events

Bookers, 2013 - 6 @ 62.95%, a heafty price too, AU.$96.99; even so $15.00 cheaper than the current A'bunadh which is far from stellar, to me anyway! 'Looking forward to the Bookers; this batch seems to have very good reviews, all over!

Laphroaig 10 year old cask strength batch 007 from the distillery shop. I was delighted to be able to buy 2 at a fair price £47-50.

I can't turn down single barrel store bottlings: the latest is Russell's Reserve Single Barrel (for the Wine Source) at 55%, NCF. I' haven't had standard Russell's Reserve, so I don't have a standard for comparison. The RRSB does reminds me of Rare Breed. The mashbill is mostly corn but it has plenty of spicy rye kick.

It was a joke based on "007" - a James Bond joke.

Just received my Booker's 2015-1 , can't wait to get into it! Booker's always pleases me and after reading some reviews it is quite intriguing. However I'm going to wait until I have 2015-4, 5 and 6 when they all come out and do a vertical of 1-6. Ooowweeeee!!

A pair of discontinued bottlings of the Balvenie 15 Year Old Single Barrel - cask no. 5553 & 7986.

I chanced upon these while out and about with the in-laws and I wasn't going to let them slip by.

I have another couple on order too which are due for delivery next week.

Four Roses Small Batch has been discontinued by LCBO. I thought that was a good enough reason to pick up a couple.

My first Campbelltown purchase. Judging by the reviews on connosr & the flavour profile descriptions, I've gone for the one I suspect I will adore: Springbank 12yr cask strength

I have no doubt you will enjoy this whisky I have tried 2 Springbank 12 YO CS, a 12 YO single cask (a touch too peaty and unbalanced), and the Claret wood. Springbank makes cask strength goodness...

I caved and ordered Writer's Tears from FineDrams. They have cask strength releases. Given the free shipping it ends up being about $75 a bottle (US), so a bit more than the 40% version available at LCBO.

I really enjoyed the regular version's flavour so I have high hopes for this one. My campaign manager for the upcoming election likes Irish Whisky, liked the bottle of WT I got him last year for his birthday (one day after his election campaign), and I think this will make a great thank you gift.

@Nozinan : I am smiling to because I did the same a week ago. Told myself I was not going to do it, but the will is weak. I actually picked up all three Writers Tears Cask Strength expressions (2012, 2013, 2014). I see the 2014 is now out of stock. I can get The Irishman Cask Strength expressions here in Michigan, but have not found a U.S. source for the Writers Tears Cask Strength. I personally enjoy both the regular Writers Tears and The Irishman Original Clan. Have not had the renamed Irishman Founders Reserve yet. My understanding is that Writers Tears generally 60% pot still and 40% single malt, while the Original Clan is 60% single malt and 40% pot still. Have been a big fan of Barry Walsh for some time. Also included afew other non-Irish whiskies to my Fine Drams order. Hope all make safe passage to my home. Cheers!

I have a bottle of King Charles, Scotch Whisky, in a One Quart bottle. Anyone ever have this or seen it? I can't find it on any website.

BINNY'S IS NO LONGER TAKING ORDERS BY MAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S RIGHT, NO MORE UPS OR FED EX DELIVERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There goes a great source for terrific spirits out the window. Sigh.

What am I drinking to mourn my access to Binny's voluminous treasures?

Only this: The Exclusive Malts 1996 Glenrothes Aged 18 years. Water is its enemy, but it's pretty pleasing to the nose and mouth straight up in a Glencairn if you like the curdled cream charms of Glenrothes, which I do.

@Cunundrum , wow—thanks for the (bad) news. Binny's has been one of my main suppliers these past few years. I'm not so far away that an in-store visit is impossible, but it's exceptional. Boo.

So I guess that leaves K&L as the first place to look for whisky by mail in the US? And I guess we'll have to see what shipping costs from FineDrams to the US are look when they get instituted later this week.

I haven't done business with all of the following outfits, but these are the others I've browsed that offer US shipping:

•Hi Time Wine

•Beltramo's

•Astor Wines

•SFWTC.com

•Stirling Fine Wine

•South Lyndale Liquors

•Mission Liquor

I've just been lucky enough to purchase a limited edition private cask bottling of 12 year old Port Charlotte matured in a Gran Callejo red wine hogshead. This has already received excellent reviews and I was delighted to get a bottle , especially since it only cost me £52. I also bought an 8 year old Bladnoch at cask strength . I haven't had a Bladnoch before and most of them are now overpriced so I was very happy to get it for £41. Both bottles were bought in the UK from the excellent Whiskybroker.

A friend of mine just returned from the Open in Scotland, and brought me back two bottles. I was able to get a Bruichladdich XVI the Sixteens Bourbon Cask, and from the duty free for a great deal, a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail. Very happy with both of these additions!

Also a bottle of the Wild a turkey Russell's Reserve Small Batch Single Barrel 110 proof.

There's a sale going on with the Buffalo Trace Experimentals.

@mscottydunc Bruichladdich 16 Bourbon = 84 on Whiskybase. Is the Uigeadail not readily available in Canada? It's very common in the US. I guess you can get Glenfarclas 15 up there. Jealous. That's not sold in the US. I also love the Ileach Cask Strength, which is hard to come by in North America. I've gotten great bottles of that in Scotland for under $50. The last one I got was a young Lagavulin that blew my socks off. Also, I'm pining for the Benromach 10 Year 100 Proof. I wish I had a friend coming back from Scotland. Kudos. A generous friend to bring two bottles back for you. That's just about the limit for one traveler.

Just picked up a bottle of Yamazaki 18 ! Though the price has gone up, I couldn't let this one pass by as i've never seen it in a store. My son is getting baptized this weekend and I figured this would be a perfect 'commemorative' bottle to pick up and don't plan on opening it until he is 18 years old.

A special Whisky for a special occasion!

@Cunundrum , both of those bottles—Ileach CS and Benromach 10/100—available for just a few more hours (probably) with free shipping from FineDrams.com. I just ordered both of them myself from this little startup, and the first package at least has arrived soundly.

No shipping. No duty. No VAT. No joke.

The Ileach CS will be about $39 converted from Euros. I just checked and it's in stock. The Benromach 10/100...oh no, wait, it's sold out now, but it was only about $55.
