@BlueNote I'd concur.
In terms of Lagavulin for me it's 8>16
The 16 seems to sanitised for me. The 8 I'd closer to what Lagavulin should be imo.
I'd say 12>8>16
But the 12 is silly money lately so not really a fair comparison.

@Wierdo And the extra 5% of ABV on the 8 doesn't hurt, either.

I recently purchased a 14 year (2006) Glen Elgin Single Cask Cask Strength bottle from the ImpEx Collection. Why? Because my wife and I love Glen Elgin and it is very hard to find, even from independent bottlers. Also, I was able to taste this particular bottle a couple of weeks ago as part of a flight of 4 different ImpEx Collection releases. I also bought it because it was only $94 USD.
A friend and I purchased the last two bottles of the Glen Elgin in Washington State. My friend picked them up from the ImpEx account rep last week. When I was over at her house last week for dinner, I picked up the Glen Elgin from her. My friend owns her own whisky business and gets a lot of bottles given to her by the various account reps. When I picked up the Glen Elgin, my friend threw in a bottle of Glenmorangie X and a BenRiach, the original 10. Three bottles for the price of one. :-)

@bwmccoy Reminds me of a song: “That’s What Friends are for.” Who was that? I’m thinking Stevie Wonder, but I don’t think so.
Coincidentally, I’ve been looking at a couple of Glen Elgins from indy bottlers lately.

@bwmccoy I recently bought a bottle of OB Glen Elgin 12. Interesting that it is the only OB from the distillery (other than very occasional special releases). I've been pleased with it - it has a certain floral almost laundry detergent aspect which, if it was stronger, could be offputting. I think it has a lovely base spirit so I'm sure your bottles will be lovely.

@BlueNote - Dione Warwick sang "That's what friends are for".
You "haven't found what you are looking for" (U2), but I hope you do find some Glen Elgin's. :-)

@Hewie - I've owned two previous OB Glen Elgin 12's which both my wife and I loved. One was purchased in Scotland in 2010. The second was purchased in Vancouver, BC in 2014. I haven't seen an OB since and have never seen one in the states.

@bwmccoy...I've never met a Glen Elgin I didn't like.

Had to drive a six hour round trip to see my parents today but luckily for me there is also a decent wine and spirits shop nearby. Thought I would pick these up for the stash. Springbank 10 for obvious reasons and the Bladnoch as it’s a nice dram. This one is the 2020 version.

Lot 40 CS finished in 150L ex-single malt peated quarter casks. (in other words, at least twice used casks ... bourbon then malt)
Despite the fact this is the second NAS offering of cask strength Lot 40 - after 2 stellar age stated editions - based on @talexander's review, I bought 2 bottles. Opened one today and ... decided to buy another 2 bottles!
I think this is the least "Canadian Whisky" I've ever tasted. The peat influence is very subtle - but that could be due to the interplay between the highly flavorful rye and the peated malt left in the casks/wood.
not cheap @ Cdn$90 for a 3 year old ;-) whiski, but it ticks all the anorak/geek boxes

These beauties will be coming back to Toronto with me. I managed to snag them when they were for sale in Calgary and they have been waiting patiently.
Thanks to @talexander I got to taste the middle one and was quite impressed. I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the line is like.

@Nozinan Nice set of triplets. Cross border shopping means going east (west for you) not south.

Got an email about a cask strength Bunna 12 and was intrigued. After some deliberating, I decided the 12 was probably better value (and I have some already) so I resisted the urge.
However ... I then noticed Glenfarclas 105 was on sale, and has been on my wish list for a repurchase for a while but prices had been high, so I snagged it for just over £40. Not bad, eh?
I also picked up a Dailuaine 16 - for the free delivery of course I like the F&F bottlings I've had, especially the Mortlach, and this is very much in that general area, by all accounts. Gets solid reviews and seems to be a meaty, savoury sherry style. Yes, please.
All for under £100 with delivery! No more now until 2028 ...

@65glenfarclas I can't remember if I mentioned this in my review, but it's like Canadian whisky for scotch lovers who usually don't like Canadian!

Not whisky, and I didn't actually buy it (it was a gift), but I am looking forward to trying it in some whisky cocktails, like a Godfather with Aberlour 12 year-old...

@YakLord I once drove all the way around La Gaspesie. Let me tell you, that is one long drive in the country. I thought seriously about trying that drive in the winter. I am very glad that I thought better of that idea.

@RianC I thought the same thing about Bunna 12 CS. More than twice the price of the standard Bunna 12 for a few extra abv.
It was a pass for me too.
Glenfarclas is such fantastic value. It's a little hit and miss in terms of batch variation. But at the prices It's always tempting to take the risk. I pretty much pass a Majestic wines on my work journey and they have the 15 for £47. Can't really argue at that price.
On a separate note. It was my birthday at the weekend and I got 2 bottles. A Glen Scotia Victoriana and a Glencadam 10.

@Wierdo a belated many happy returns mate, hope you had a good day and a nice couple of bottles to be given. Two lovely drams.

No had much Edradour but the last one of these I had went down so quickly I knew I had to get another. It tastes as good as it looks. Cheers.
Ps one day I will get to the distillery and I can have a splurge on signatory bottlings.

Arrived today. No box for the Dailuaine though, which is annoying. Looking forward to trying it.
Has anyone here had it?

@Timp - I was looking at that myself the other day but feel a bit hesitant about buying Edradours. The ones I've had have been good whisky, with lots of character, but there's a note running through them that I'm not 100% sure about.
I still have one of your samples, actually. Maybe I'll try it later if the stars align ha!

@Wierdo - Happy Birthday mate! Nice score too. I plan to open a Victoriana once my GS 15 is emptied so let me know if you want a sample.
Cheers!

Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 4

@RianC Haven't had that one, but I've got a Signatory Dailuaine on order. I have had a Cadenhead Dailuaine and it was very good.

@fiddich1980 That's a tough one to get hold of. Good score.

@Timp that edradour has been on my 'to buy' list for about a year. But every month I always seem to get something else instead! I'm pleased to hear you rate it.

@fiddich1980 currently have a bottle open. My first heavily peated Kilkerran. Superb whisky for the price point. Reminds me a bit of a Ledaig rather than an Islay. I get more farmyard funky peat that coastal peat.

@Wierdo will stick you a sample in mate so you can try before you buy! Also very much looking forward to the sample of the Kilkerran peated you sent. I know I will like it. Particularly as you mention that farmyard peat note.. Always like that in a whisky. Cheers.
